Happy Mothers Day still brought out the boys to play their favourite game... Iron Lungs 9-3 over Green Men in a fiesty match....mom may not have been proud, but approved of the red cards. Bulldogs used a smart game to dismantle Top Cheese 11-5. Top Cheese was looking top shelf all night, but missed the net way too much to make this one closer. Great pace though. Godsons 16-6 over The Ottawa Empire over in the Blue Gym for 3 on 3 action...only it was 4 on 3 as the Empire goalie did not have GPS to find the gym. The Meld vs Blazers....the Blazers continue to impress with their ball control skills...19-3. A Few Good Men vs Das Blau....both teams enjoy this rivalry as the old guys tried to work out deals at home to get out and play on Mothers Day. We guess the goalie for A Few Good Men did his Mom duty and was a no-show as a result....so Mike from the Meld did the tough job of double duty. 19-5 Das Blau. Is It In Yet? vs Millenium Falcons...a tight defensive battle followed the rock music in the French Palace. Some great team play from both teams as no goals were scored in the first period. The match ended up 5-4 for the ? team in a topsy-turvy game that was the only non-blowout game of the night. Blazers look to be the favourites with some creative passing, lots of hustle... Blazers vs Irons Lungs.....the Blazers are an impressive team. They play the clean OBBHA brand of ball hockey and use all the space in the gym available to them. Iron Lungs have some talent and lots of runners....but the Blazers put their skills on display with great ball control pass plays. 14-4 was the final. These guys should join the Fall and Winter sessions on Monday nights to test their skills against the best in Ottawa. Millenium Falcons vs Green Men...the Green Men carried long stretches of the game in Falcons zone, but the space ship guys made some nice plays for some pretty goals on the chances they did get. 12-9 for the Star Wars fans. Over the Blue Gym for some 3 on 3 action....quite a game between Is It In Yet? and The Meld. The Meld were in yet another close game. This time they snuck out a 7-6 win that featured some amazing goaltending from The Meld`s leader and goaltender Mike. He made some double stacked pad saves that did not have a question of Is It In Yet? from everyone in the gym! A Few Good Men vs Godsons....Godson`s goalie Moe was the story in this match. He played the game before for the Millenium Falcons and then was the difference maker for this game. A Few Good Men had a short bench but held the territorial advantage for most of the game. The Godsons came up with offence to support Moe and then some beer at Ralph`s for him too! 7-4 for the Godsons. Das Blau vs Top Cheese...this was a lane running game and was very close until late in the game. Many tried the one on one play, but failed as the defence on both sides was solid. Finally some nice plays by Das Blau to set-up some point shots for goals (some deflections involved) was the diffenece in the final minutes of the match. 6-3 final The Ottawa Empire vs Bulldogs...The Empire wanted to change their game on the defensive side of things and this worked early on as they were only down 2-0 after one period to strong team in the name of the Bulldogs. The Empire did not generate alot of offence, but the structured game they played kept them engaged in the match for long periods of time. A rare OBBHA shut-out in a 13-0 game. Some of the feature match-ups were the most entertaining sequences............ Top Cheese vs Godsons....Top Cheese jumped ouit to a commanding lead, but had to hang on for dear life at the end as the Godsons came up with a strong finish to make this one close. 11-9 for the Cheese. Green Men vs The Meld...a wild one. After two periods this game was tied up at 3-3 in an intense affair. The Green Men scored with two minutes left to take a 6-4 lead. But in the OBBHA wild comebacks can be a normal occurrence. This time The Meld scored with 1:20 left to close to within one goal at 6-5. and then finally with only 5-seconds left they tied it up for a 6-6 final Over in the Blue Gym 3 on 3 action saw the Millenium Falcons meet up with Bulldogs...the advantange was all Bulldogs as they have played the 3 on 3 OBBHA game in previous OBBHA Winter Classic tournaments while the Millenium Falcons have played a few sessions of 4 on 4 and have adapted their game to that format. This back-drop proved to be true as the Bulldogs won it 14-4 Das Blau vs Iron Lungs....the most anticipated match-up of the night on paper. Another spirited match. This time a big first period by Das Blau was the difference in a 9-5 win. Some great back and forth action. A Few Good Men vs Blazers...A very nice skilled match played to the OBBHA 4-F motto. Clean skilled plays with respect to each other. Bottle this and showcase it. The Blazers basically wore down A Few Good Men (who could really have used that 8th guy on the bench) for the 15-4 win Is It In Yet? vs The Ottawa Empire...a much better outing by the Empire group. Is It in Yet? got 9 "yes" answers for the 9-3 victory. Everyone's thoughts are with the fellow who received an inadvertent high stick to the mouth...as always we recomment the full cage or shield as much as the sticks are not to go above the shoulders. Plenty of surprises on big Opening Night for the Sunday Spring Session............ Th new teams got ttheir feet wet in the OBBHA game and some longtime OBBHA B-Div teams got some French Palace action. The Blazers are one of the new teams and they looked good thank-you very much as they dismantled the Millenium Falcons 12-4 Das Blau won the Sunday Spring championship two years ago and came up short last year....this year they come in looking great in a 15-2 win over the rookies from The Ottawa Empire.....an empire takes time to build. The only game not played in the French Palace on this night was the 3 on 3 action over in the Blue Gym. A Few Good Men vs Green Men. Two and a half men (Pat the GM was the partial count lol). A Few Good Men got a few goals on this night for a 17-6 win over the Green Men who featured a new goalie who promises to be better next week. The Game of the Night. Is It In Yet? vs Top Cheese. This was a back and forth game that was a treat to watch. How about a 7-7 game with less than minute left when the winner was score by the question mark guys for the 8-7 win.....and the Top Cheese hit the post in the dying seconds. Whew! Godsons vs Irong Lungs.....the breathing machine were the new team but they looked like veterans in a spirited affair...the Godsons as always are out for a good time. The Iron Lungs won it 11-4 and were in full flight for most of the game....just a reminder to the new team to respect the OBBHA 4-F motto of Fun, Fitness, Friendship and Fair-play! The NIght-cap featured The Meld vs Bulldogs.....the Bulldogs have played the OBBHA Xmas Classic tournament in years past, so this was their first regular session action. The Bulldogs came out flying in the first period and held a 4-1 lead. But their small bench caught up with them as The Meld slowly came back to tie it up at 7-7. A wild last minute saw the Meld take an 8-7 lead with 32-seconds left only to have the Bulldogs tie it at 8-8 with only 14-seconds remaining. Play-Off Format for the Sunday Spring Session is as follows:
Week 1 to Week 6 The Final games for the Winter session were fun to play and entertaining to watch..... GOBHA Green Slime defeated the young Bar Down upstarts 11-4 for the A-Division championshiop. Green Slime showed some veteran savvy against a very skilled team. The match was close for awhile before the experience prevailed. Tommy in the nets for the Green Slime was a difference maker. Congrats to the Green Slime dynasty!
Speaking of dynasties...chalk up another one for GOBHA-Yellow Knights. This one was much closer as every time the Knights took a two goal lead the spunky Undefined group came back to tie it. Finally the Yellow Knights pulled away for an uplifting 13-11 B-Div championship win. Some say the big goal from Serge Brunet was the difference.
3rd Seed in the A-Div goes to the surprise of the session...the Raiders. They won a thriller 7-6 over Body Count. Blue Eagles tried for their first ever OBBHA win but came up short against a game Millenium Falcons. 10-8 was the final as predicted by Blue Eagles Captain Ivan....we are contacting him asap for lottery winning numbers. Give the 7th seed to the Falcons in the B-Div.
The 7th seed in the A-Div goes to the Infamous Roaches for their wild 12-11 over the Wildcats. Wild is the word here. Fun time! A Few Good Men to the B-Div 3rd seed after working extremely hard to defeat an ever improving Green Men team. 6-4 in a compelling tilt. The Meld get the 9th seed in the A-Div for the 5-0 whitewash over the missing Agravadors. Caged Heat vs Is It In Yet! for the B-Div 5th seed.....Is It In Yet played their hard working style for an 8-3 win. Caged Heat were looking forward to the year end party! Sticks and Balls vs Executive Class for the A-Div 5th seed...Stick and Balls had a big lead and then had to hold a furious comeback attempt from Executive Class for a 12-11 nail-biter. |
