Sunday night standings start to trend as play-offs are fast approaching us..... The A-div will feature a top 4 and bottom 6 grouping for the play-offs....still three more rounds to go to see where everyone settles in. The B-Div has one more round before the wild sudden death play-off round that defines the top four and bottom four groupings. BLUE EAGLES SERVED WITH JAUNDICED HORSE SAUCE- (CP) The Yellow Knights caught their bird and slow roasted the Blue Eagles in a topsy –turvy battle that saw the Knights best the Eagles 11-9It was a great effort on the part of the Blue Eagles in an epic battle that had the “Angry Blue Birds” leading the game but finally sucumbing to the ’Jaundiced Horses’ in the final 8 minutes of the third period.Dave Balloch GM of the Yellow Knights commented “That game could have went either way, but I think that if the Eagles had the energy level they had last Sunday, they would have , they performed admirably for an energy depleted team”. BLUE EAGLES STRIKE FIRST AND STRIKE OFTEN. The Eagles had the lead for the first period of game and most of the second period , but after 12:43 of the second, and for the rest of the third period, the lead changed hands about 5 different times.Sylvain was a key catalyst of many offensive plays, but mentioned he was tired from being in a tournament in Alliston this past Saturday.“I had played with Ryan on a few shifts, he was yelling , Sylvain over here, I went to pass the ball to him, but I was blinded by that yellow tape on Ryan’s stick..Next time Ryan, try using NO tape”. SERGE SCORES…WAIT….HE’S ON THE OTHER TEAM Former Blue Eagle Serge came back to haunt his former team by chipping in a goal past MVP goalie Daniel Vaillancourt. Daniel said “ It was a garbage goal, maudit that Serge , I cant believe he scored …I am not bitter about the goal, comeon, I am happy for him, at least its one goal more than he score for us all last season..I hear he might have to give a urine test, definitely something different about Serge, I think he is 14 lbs heavier”. WHERE WAS GATORADE OR RED BULL WHEN WE NEEDED IT Many of the players from the Blue Eagles squad came to the game either battling colds, or were slightly tired from other “family” activities.Nicolas scored a goal in the second period and commented “ We seemed to be tired before the game even started, a lot of the guys had little zip , Ryan Wong was running a lot , but a lot of guys just didn’t have their wheels”.Shawn commented “ Its amazing, last week we won because everyone had zip in their step , I think we could have beat the Knights last night , the game was soo close , but we didn’t have the momentum, we didn’t have our legs…I know if we did, we easily would have won 11-5” PAUL MATCHES SHARPE Rookie Sensation Paul Cameron tied the franchise record for most goals in the game notching 4 goals. The record of 4 goals was held by Power Forward Shawn Sharpe. “Oh my GOD, Its such a great honour to be mentioned in the same breath as Shawn, I mean, its an honour to share that record with him, I think I found my game, and it was great to have my brother out there on my wing helping me establish that franchise record….Does this mean I get keys to a new car ?” Brother Andy scored as well “What can I say, I am proud of my brother tying the record, Paul was humble about it…but now he is bragging about a Nike sponsorship deal ?? ” CHICO ESTABLISHES NEW FRANCHISE RECORD Last night saw Chico establish a record for the fastest goal scored in the beginning of a period (3 seconds). Chico winged a hum-dinger of a shot that eluded everyone sailing over the goalies shoulder.“I just shot at the net, we were down by 2 , and after I scored that goal it took some of the wind out of their sails”. Previous franchise record of 11 seconds was held by both Brendan Sell/Basem Awwad IVAN - WTF , SAVE THE CHARITY WORK FOR AFTER THE GAME ???? Shutdown D-Man Ivan had a key turnover in the second period. Ivan attempted to shoot at the net with his patented 43 km/hr slap-shot, the Knight forward intercepted Ivan’s shot and surprised Daniel with a shot glove side.Brendan commented “ After Ivan blocked that shot in the foot in the first period, he was never the same, usualy defensively usually he flips to Sharpe which is his usual go-to guy . I know he was aiming for the net, but it was just bad timing, bad aim and bad luck..I felt bad for him”.Daniel commented “Tabarnak, I can’t believe that surprise giveaway on his part..Well, at least he didn’t score on me, I’ve seen cars move faster at a cemetery than that slap shot” Feb 5th Some interesting teams and personalities entertain the Sunday OBBHA crowds….
The Agravadors….Mario! Mario! The little guy can run and he has built a younger team that can run with him. Ray the goalie is a factor and when he is not there….well it’s kind of like the Viagara commercial “sorry guys”…. Infamous Roaches…nobody can figure this team out this session. A top 4 club that has struggled lately….but the Sunday night league is not an easy run. Plenty of good teams to face week in and week out will wear you down. Eric Belanger is a scoring force and a treat to watch. GOBHA –Green Slime…the class of the OBBHA in terms of their play and how they have embrace the 4-F motto of Fun, Fitness, Friendship and Fair-play. Their team leader is Davyd Balloch and he has his boys playing some creative ball hockey that everyone should enjoy watching and playing against. Body Count is a long-time OBBHA club that may be the hardest working club in the OBBHA game in and game out. Some of the nicest fellows you would want to meet are sprinkled into their line-up…but they won’t let you play with the ball when they are on the floor. They want it! Bar Down…A group of young players that display their skill from week to week. This is an up and coming team for the future. As long as they concentrate on the game (win or lose by the way boys) they are a great group to play against. Raiders….they won the B-Div a few sessions back and moved up to the A-Div. They made the top 4 last session and are taking on the Body Count as the hard-hat team of the OBBHA. They have made move in the nets and are playing some great defensive hockey this session. Sticks and Balls….a great looking team and some of the nicest fans in the OBBHA! They may be involved in the most one-goal games or closest games of any team. They are a fun group and love the game. Some nice passing has crept into their game. Executive Class….the executives jumped in to help the Nordiques playing at a high level. A tough team to figure out, but always in the game each week. Some new additions when they are there will make this group of talented players a squad to watch. Diesel has become a top goaltender in the Sunday league too! Wild Cats….a new team so hard to read. They have come out of the starting block rather strong, but time will tell. Some adapting to the OBBHA ZERO tolerance rule, but once they master that they should be okay. There is some talent here… The Meld…time will tell! A tough schedule has this team looking forward to testing themselves against the rest of the Sunday night talent. The boys look a little tired once the 3rd period rolls around…as the OBBHA non-stop game will exposed the drifters. A strategic presence is needed to keep the goals against down…keeping the 4 runners closer would be a start, then the offence will take of itself. GOBHA-Yellow Knights…the pride of the B-div last session is looking to find ways to score as often this session. They have a solid game plan…they just need to stick with it. Davyd Balloch is patching up a line-up from week to week…but once this team commits they will run with the rest of the league no problem. Is It In Yet?....a talented bunch. Discipline will be the key to their success. They should be in the top four and score a ton. No slouches on the club as they run hard from whistle to whistle. Goaltending is now a strong point for them and they have improved their passing game. Green Men….a new line-up has some stronger player developing alongside the original crew. One of the more intriguing groups to watch in the coming weeks. More wins will come as this team blossoms. Green machine? A Few Good Men….one of the oldest teams in the league. Old as in age too! But they have some youth sprinkled in to make this salt and pepper bunch a team to reckon with. Every night it’s always a good match and lots of fun to play against these men. The OBBHA’s 4-F motto is stamped on their backs. Undefined….a young group that continues to improve and run. They are finding ways to find space and score goals. They will be tough stop this session for sure. Enjoy playing a high paced game versus the energy bunnies. Caged Heat…loved at the OBBHA and loved at Ralph’s Sports Bar. Love is the new Orange. A great group of fun-loving boys. Did we mention they love ball hockey? This team may well be featured on Valentines cards there is so much love…seriously though they play a great OBBHA game and have improved so much over time. Millennium Falcons…speaking of improving….this team has done so in spades (or at least in goals for and against). They are playing well and having a great time doing so. Again, some great fellows on this team, so take the time to enjoy their friendship and fair-play. So nice to have quality people to play ball hockey with. Blue Eagles…moving along the theme of quality people…not only do the Blue Eagles have this…the also have one of most talented ball hockey writers in Ottawa! If you missed his earlier rendition from earlier blogs…keep an eye out next week for the Blue Eagles write-up as we place the focus on them! Up to it Ivan?! (keep it clean)…anyone else up to the task for their team? The Millenium Falcons thrill the faithful with a stirring come from behind win........ Highlights of the Night! -in the headliner the Falcons were down by 3 and came back to shock the Caged Heat 10-8. Even Ashley over at Ralph's Sports Bar was pining for the orange boys. -Is it In Yet? renew old rivalry with A few Good Men....low scoring 5-4 win for the question mark squad. -Sticks and Balls edged Executive Class 7-6 in well played match. -Both GOBHA teams score lots in lopsided wins -In the match of the night....Raiders 6-5 over Wildcats in a very entertaining and fast paced game Wildcats get their first win in franchise history surprising talented Bar Down...... A quick few notes from last nights games....Wildcats looked good in 11-7 win over Bar Down. Its nice to see a strong club so early in their OBBHA start for they do have some structure that lends itself well to the OBBHA game. Infamous Roaches give Green Slime a scare as usual as a comeback bid came up a goal short 8-7. Executive Class get unlikely win over Raiders 5-4 after surviving a wild first period with no subs...they were down 1-0 after one and once 3 subs showed the fell behind 3-0 before rallying. A Few Good Men play one of their classic gams against Caged Heat whom are playing some fine ball hockey these days. Millenium Falcons and Undefined both win...keep an eye on these two clubs. Body Count and Is It In Yet? cruize to victories. Sticks and Balls score 10! For the first Sunday Night back at it, everyone played like the were in prime shape... The opener for the night was entertaining and set the tone for the night. Infamous Roaches tested the Agravadors goalie early and often. Ray Pelletier kept his team close to set the stage for his teams thrilling third period comeback. 8-7 Agravadors win! Welcome back Is It In Yet? The boys played hard in a 7-4 loss to the improved Caged Heat. A hard working affair to say the least! The Meld is a new team and they faced the class of Sunday nights A-Div in GOBHA-Green Slime. They were shown the ropes in a 16-7 loss. Some heavy panting from the new players as they got their first taste of the non-stop OBBHA game. A refurbished Green Men team vs the surprisingly improving Millenium Falcons. A wild game that finally ended in an 8-8 tie after the Green Men showed some determination scoring with under two-minutes left in the game. The Wildcats are another new team and held their own against one of the best Sunday night teams Body Count. Body Count had their hands full in a nail-biting 12-11 win. Last sessions finalists met to open the new session. This time Undefinded came up with the win 10-7 over GOBHA-Yellow Knights who gave it a spirited effort. Bar Down spares took on Executive Class and jumped into an early 7-2 lead using some impressive passing to get that lead. However Executive Class chipped away to make it a one-goal deficit with less than a minute left at 11-10....but two late goals by Bar Down as the Class pressed for the equalizer made the final 13-10. The Blue Eagles have a new look and its faster. They surprised the heavily favoured A Few Good Men squad and kept this one close for a long time. A breakdown for about a minute cost the Blue Eagles 2-quick goals and that remained the difference in a 10-6 decision for A Few Good Men. A good pace to this one. How about a defensive game to end the night. Raiders vs Sticks nd Balls. A goalie battle to be sure! Not much to choose from as these two squads ran hard for the full hour. 4-2 Raiders in a crowd pleaser. Get Ready! Opening Night for the Winter Session is Sunday, January 15th....... Sunday Night Fall Games come to a close and Champions of A and B are..... First the Sticks and Balls met Bar Down for the A-Div 5th Seed....a wild game that featured many momentum changes and a few too many cards. Once the teams settled into game play the entertainment value was high and ended up 8-8 after regulation. Then we entered into the pressure cooker of the shoot-out. Speaking of cooking.....the shoot-out between Olivia's melt in your mouth cookies vs Natasha's deliciousvginger bread ball hockyey men that were shaped like an odd hockey stick were tough to choose from. Stick and Balls were the clear winners here...and maybe John who scarfed down his share of the treats (if not more). Oh! And by the way Bar Down won in the shoot-out after 7-rounds! What is it with these guys?! Millenium Falcons met Caged Heat for the B-Div 5th Seed...Caged Heat were so excited about an early game and the prospect of fun with Ralph and Ashley, that they overlooked the press clippings that reported that their opponent on this night had been steadily improving over recent weeks. The Millenium Falcons did not use Force, but creative play and a full team effort from start to finish to keep this match close. Finally they outlasted Caged Heat for a 10-8 win. By the way Caged Heat still had fun afterwards as usual. We love the OBBHA 4-F motto but as for the 5th-F.......May the Force be with you all. Infamous Roaches met the Agravadors for the B-Div 7th Seed...Infamous Roaches star player Eric Belanger was at it again as notched 6 goals in an 8-6 win over the much improved Agravadors. Belanger lost his shadow (John) and was able to run free. A fun game that was close right up to the end. Everyone missed Mario, but had fun anyways. End to end action at its best. Undefined vs GOBHA-Yellow Knighs for the B-Div Championship Game: Undefinded were dealt a mental blow as their goalie came down with a lower body injury. Charlie Conway came to recue for them. However the class of the B-Div in the Yellow Knights were ready for the title match. They kept to their game plan as Undefined tried every trick in the book to try and knock off the undefeated favourites. The battle for the toques was a good one as the Knights won it 11-6 and disappeared into the night with their woolies over their ears. Congratulations boys! Body Count vs GOBHA-Green Slime for the A-Div Championship Game: The fans who witnessed this one were left breathless at the end. Special Guest Game Manager Jason Prevost has his work cut-out with him as he raced up and down the floor trying to keep up to the furious pace the two teams set. The "power of the toque" seemed to motivate both squads. How about a back forth game that featured picture perfect passing plays and some scorching shots. Goalies Tommy and Derek were exhausted afterwards. It was 9-9 late until the one-two punch of Ducharm-Mongeon powered the Green Slime to a 12-9 lead. Only to see Body Count race back into it by cutting the lead to 12-11 and almost evening it up with seconds to play. Congratulations to both teams for a spirited game. Green Slime are winners once again but it was not easy! These two could meet again this Saturday in the OBBHA XMAS CLASSIC tournament....that would be worth watching to be sure! A Few Good Men vs N`Fries for the B-Div 3rd Seed...always a one goal game when these two meet. So much fun to watch these guys play one another. This time a 10-9 decision went to N'Fries. Wildly back forth. Had to be there to appreciate the work ethic and sheer determination on both sides. Nicely done everyone. Raiders vs Executive Class for the A-Div 3rd Seed...Raiders held a 7-6 lead late and then blew the game wide open in the final 3 minutes for an 11-6 win. Mike was solid in the Raiders net. Look for some line-up changes to the EC for the Winter Session....look out Green Slime and Body Count! Blue Eagles vs Green Men for the B-Div 7th Seed...Blue Eagles were the clear winners on this night. They gave some players to the rebuildng Green Men who were short benched. 13-9 Blue Eagles as they took no prisoners (not even their own). The owned the slot and filled the net. Where was this offence all year?! Look out for the Green Men in January....their line-up on paper is looking quite strong. And the Blue Eagles are tweaking some contracts that will push them close to the cap....the fans at the French Palace are excited and can't wait for the Winter Session to start! If we don't see you at the OBBHA XMAS CLASSIC tournament this weekend....Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! So many "game of the night" contests to choose from in semi-final action.... The first on the list would be Infamous Roaches vs Bar Down. 8-8 after regulation....and note that Eric Belanger scored 7-goals for the Roaches! This went to the shoot-out. After 5 shooters each....no goals. It went 9 rounds before Bar Down finally won it! GOBHA Yellow Knights jumped out to a 5-1 first period lead over A Few Good Men and cruised to a 12-8 win to get into the finals next week. GOBHA Green Slime grabbed their ticket to the final with an impressive 15-6 win over the Raiders. Undefined will meet the Yellow Knights in the final after their hard earned 9-7 win over N'Fries who never quit on any night and in particular on this one. Sticks and Balls took a sugar rush from some impressive baking for a tight 6-4 win over the suddenly competitive Agravadors. Another game of the night.....Millenium Falcons came back from a 5-3 third period deficit to tie it a 6-6 before scoring in the final minute on the Green Men for a thrilling 7-6 win. This was a wild end to end match that provided the fans with fast paced entertainment. Potentially the match of the night.....An even match between Executive Class and Body Count. Body Count scored with less than a minute left to tie the game at 6-6. Another shoot-out, this time for a ticket to the finals next Sunday. It went 7 rounds as Body Count wins in the bottom of the 7th. Thrilling! Caged Heat took it to the Blue Eagles before going to bed early. 10-4 was the final as the Blue Eagles worked their tails off to generate some offence againt a stubborn orange defence. With Round-Robin games completed the semi-final matches are set............... Some very interesting semi-final matches in all four groups. Some of the matches that stand out are Infamous Roaches vs Bar Down and Executive Class vs Body Count plus N'Fries vs Undefined and Green Men vs Millenium Falcons. From action in the last round robin games November 27th: Infamous Roaches and Stick and Balls were embroiled in an end to end thriller that featured a wild finish with an empty net goal followed by a late goal to bring the match to within one goal yet again. 9-8 Roaches in a game the fan faithful thought would have been just if it ended in a tie. Well played. Caged Heat are living on pizza, wings and beer. This steady diet is giving them the gift of goals for a 13-1 win over the Green Men. How did that lone goal in? So close to the shut-out! Body Count keep on coming and if you don't match their energy you can get throttled. They gave it to the Raiders 15-4. Millenium Falcons are in hper-drive it appears. As the session progresses they are improving. A 15-5 win over the Blue Eagles left no doubt about that! The Eagles are dealing with some injuries but keep on gutting it out in the effort department. Watch for them to be better next session....but they may still have say in the next two games. Agravadors are surprising a few teams these days. Bar Down were in a game and had to go the limit for the 9-6 win. Yellow Knights pumped up the shot counter but only came away with a 9-7 win. Oh what a difference great goaltending to do...and Undefined should by a few pops for their goalie for his effort on this night. There were some featured high light glove saves that will be remembered all week! Green Slime are mowing down opponent after opponent. This night was not easy though. 11-6 over a game Executive Class whom would love nothing better than another shot at the top dogs....but first a tough semi-final with the Body Count who also have their sights set on the Slime. Hey maybe the Raiders want to add their game in there as well.... A Few Good Men got the play-off monkey off their back with a 7-5 win over N'Fries. These teams always play close matches and the games are entertaining. This one was 4-4 deep into the game....this would be a good final, but first the semi-finals!!
Please make sure you fill out survey posted wth link on the main-page.......... The Raiders played a fabulous defensive game against Sunday's best in the Green Slime. 6-3 final in a hard running game that closed off space quickly and often. The goalies were stellar as the defensive players were the stars on this night. Undefined came up with a surprising win over A Few Good Men 7-4....the new ball impelemented was not loved by a few men, but was well recieved for the remainder of the night. One more ball will be experimented with over the coming weeks to ensure safety and quality of the game. A few men may not be fans of this.... Bar Down seemed to have this game in hand over the Sticks and Balls...but with precious seconds left in the game Bar Down held only a 7-6 lead. Then Bar Down inexplicably missed an open net as Sticks and Ball pulled their goalie.....the ensueing rush almost resulted in the equalizer with one second remaining. Wild finish. Yellow Knights were in a game all night versus N'Fries....they held on for a 9-7 win. Agravadors edged the Infamous Roaches 7-6 in what some might say was an upset....but the Agravadors are playing some good ball hockey these days. Caged Heat had enough fire power on this night to take down the excited group from the Millenium Falcons. Fun match to see. Body Count vs Executive Class....Body Count jumped out to a 4-0 lead only 3-minutes into the game. The first ended 6-4 for Body Count and the second ended 10-10 as the Executive Class clawed their way back into the game. This wild shoot-out ended 14-13 Body Count as it was last shot wins. Green Men came up with a 19-7 win over the Blue Eagles. The Eagles scored 6 goals in the first...but only one the rest of the way. The Green Men just kept scoring as they seemed to jump all over every loose ball as the game wore on. Millenium Falcons edge the Green Men 9-8 for their first win of the fall session Sticks and Ball scored 3 late goals to get by the Agravadors 6-5. A Few Good Men gave a solid effort but just kept coming up a little short in 8-6 loss to the impressive GOBHA-Yellow Knights. GOBHA-Green Slime took an 8-2 lead in the third period only to see a game Body Count close it to 8-7...then some snipes put it away for the Green Slime 11-8. Kudos to the Body Count for not giving up and making a game of it. Caged Heat threw a blanket over the fun-loving Blue Eagles for a 7-2 win. Bar Down took down the Infamous Roaches 9-6 in a fast running game. N'Fries keep playing an up-tempo game that teams are having trouble matching. This time they outlasted the young Undefined team 8-6. Executive Class are winning all the close games now after losing several close games early in the session. 7-6 over the Raiders in a very evenly played match. The headliner was that 9-8 win for the Millenium Falcons over the Green Men. Too bad this one had to have a winner as this was as entertaining a game you would ever want to witness. There should be a joyous party for all the Ewoks and their allies as the Force was with the winners for a change. One Game Divisional Play-off Games finalize the two groups for the play-offs... A-Div 1 vs 8. Green Slime left no doubt about who is going where for the two play-off groups. Sticks and Balls gave is a good effort but the Green guys Slimed them 16-3. A-Div 5 vs 4...Executive Class had beaten the Infamous Roaches the week before with some solid spared in the line-up. This time they had their regular line-up and the Roaches were hungry to get back into the top four group once again for a run at the Green Slime. But the Executives were key in a 9-8 "upset" win. The Roaches will be a force in the bottom group but will be tested by Bar Down to be sure. B-Div 5 vs 4...Caged Heat have had great run, but ran into a veteran group that was very determined on this night. 8-2 for the N'Fries. A-Div 7 vs 2...Body Count showed the Agravadors how they play the game. All OBBHA all the time. 13-2. B-Div 6 vs 3...Green Men gave it a go in 18-9 loss to the young Undefined boys. Blue Eagles feast on N'Fries for first win in OBBHA franchise history......... Check schedule for play-off games for this Sunday, November 6th. 2011 Play-offs work this way: After each team plays one another (7-game regular season) everyone is ranked 1 through 8. Then there is a one game play-off to determine two groups of 4 (1vs8, 2vs7, 3vs6, 4vs5). The winners and losers of these games are divided into the top 4 (winners of sudden death game) and bottom 4 (losers). The two groups play within their own divisions the rest of the way.....first a round robin of three games. Then a semi-final (1vs4, 2vs3) followed by a final seeding game for the final game. This keeps the similiar skilled teams playing one another, while still giving a lower seed a chance at the top four with that sudden death game right after the regular season. In total there are 5 play-off games that everyone plays! Fun! Bar Down starts without a goalie and keeps Sticks and Balls off the score sheet....then once their goalie is in they cruize to a 13-6 win. The Blue Eagles Press had all the journalists microphones shoved into the players faces for post game comments after their first win. 11-8 over N'Fries. This one will be fondly remembered. Executive Class surprised the Infamous Roaches with a 6-4 win. Frank Massie returned from minors where Sacred Blue are trying to get their game back and he looked great with several spectacular glove saves to keep his team looking classy. Special guests Howard Wong and Jason Craig were keys victory as the Roaches were impressed with the ball control they witnessed. Undefined 12-5 over the Millennium Falcons....not sure if there was any baking involved. Agravadors and Raiders played a wild one in a 7-7 tie. Good run for everyone! Yellow Knights had all they could handle from the ever improving Caged Heat, but eventually pulled away for a 10-5 win. Green Slime vs Body count for first place. 11-7 for the Slime. Body Count kept getting within one goal throughout the game, but the Slime offence was in full gear for this one. Green Men gave A Few Good Men a great game but fell short 17-8 as goalie Martin was not ready to play 2 games in one night after sparing earlier for the N'Fries. No greasy fry smell...just sweaty work involved from both squads. Old Rivals enjoy renewing end to end action..Green Slime vs Infamous Raoches Infamous Roaches vs GOBHA Green Slime...tied at 2-2 after one period and 6-6 after two periods. These two teams love to play one another and its always fast paced and fun. Green Slime pulled away in the 3rd period for the 11-7 win .Strong games from Greens Stephane Ducharme and Roaches Eric Belanger. Caged Heat vs Blue Eagles. .Caged Heat were dreaming of celebrating a victory with more beer, wings and `jockularity`` ....but first the game had to be played against a band of very entertaining personalities (see last weeks blog). How about this game! Blue Eagles play their best game yet in a close 10-8 loss. Caged Heat should share some of those wings with their defence though. Raiders vs Executive Class...Mike in the net for the Raiders came up big in the 3rd period as the Raiders played a great game from start to finish for the 9-6 win. Executives threw the ball around from the back end well, but need some passing from the front end to be able to compete in the skilled Sunday night league. Millenium Falcons vs GOBHA Yelow Knights...The bed wetters matured to 16 goals in this one over the Falcons who lost some warp drive. Back to some defence next week for sure boys! Bar Down vs Body Count...Body Count just keeps it in overdrive as they outlasted the young Bar Down team 12-9. Great pace and action in both ends. A Few Good Men vs Undefined...the old guys had enough men to double the young Undefinded team 10-5. Solid run for both teams Agravadors vs. Sticks and Balls...Sticks and Balls played thier most comlete game of the year for the win. They were structure in both zones and made some creative passing plays to the Agravadors off balance. 14-4 final. Some suggest the lack of baking from the fan faithful is to blame for the lack of scoring and wins recently....so the big hint is for oatmeal cookies for the nesxt game. Green Men vs N`Fries...Mike of the Radiers pulled double duty in the net for the green guys. N`Fries put on a nice passing clinic as their game is improving week to week with strong strategies implemented and tailored to each opponent. 23-5 final. The Green Men need to establish some structure to their game....ie pass the ball! Play positions and communicate....or the football scores will keep happening. Blue Eagles ghost writer gives the Phantom a run for some entertaining stuff -You have read the Phantom`s musings from time to time....check out the Blue Eagle ghost writer: Yellow Knights DOESN’T mean Wetting the BED. Last night saw the sensational Blue Eagles facing their old friend Dave Balloch and his Yellow Knights while getting thumped 15-6. Balloch’s boys in yellow remain undefeated, and showed no signs of getting “blue balled” by the Eagles Hey Ivan, is a “Yellow Night” another way of saying Bed Wetting, You know, like a Bed Wetter ? I am not sure , but looking at way the we played last night , it was like we forgot to change our diapers , the forwards did a lot of running , the defence was slow and out of position a lot. Yeah , it was like someone’s mom didn’t change the diapers cause the box read “good for up to 35 lbs”. I think Thanksgiving layoff had something to do with the slow pace back there on the Defence. I am not sure what happened, but our goals were score by you and Brice, I think one of the forwards scored a goal, but the good news is that the forwards were flying Hey Ivan, Can I ask you something ?.... Ever wet the bed as a kid ? No, but I did pee behind the piano in kindergarten. ADONIS STILL CONSISTENT Brice “Adonis” Lafontaine was still the model of consistency last night. The former underwear model , with “10” pack abs scored a high roofer on the Yellow Knights goalie . Brice suffered a bit of an injury while he slipped up on someone’s stick. The 45 year old claims “ I was a little sluggish since I was playing a little heavier than usual because of Thanksgiving, its hard to run around out there after gaining 19 ounces from the holiday”. “By the way, Ivan was that a slapshot ? I think Richard Simmons could have shot the ball harder…our forwards have to learn to pass the ball more to each other, less dump and chase” ANDY SCORES One half of the “BUZZ Brother Duo” Andy Cameron scored his first goal of the 2011 campaign. “It felt good scoring, I had a hard time getting a shot past that roly –poly goalie but it was good to sink one in” Serge had SURGE Holy High Voltage..Serge sporting a new haircut and playing with new sticks showed some speed and grit up front, with all his effort, his night would have capped off on a high if he score a goal, Next TIME Serge. Brendan Sell enjoyed playing forward for the first time this season. CHICO, LEAVE THE MEASURING TAPE AT HOME Chico Mazzuca gave his synopsis of the team’s play on D…”We sucked back there, I wish my stick was longer, and hey our d-men don’t wear pads, speaking of pads, Daniel, your pads are too slim, they are only 22” wide, even Sylvain’s Maxi-Pads are 24” wide, go to SEARS and get some goalie pads”. DANIEL’s FINAL THOUGHTS “From where I was standing, This is what I thought… We aren’t relaxed out there, we are trying too hard to score, too hard to win, and some players look like they aren’t having fun, getting too serious. We had forwards running hard tonight , but their heads weren’t up looking at the play, they were not looking around before they passed, and there were a lot of blind passes out there, but they did keep the ball in deep. The defence, left me like UGLY BETTY at the high school dance, often there were a lot of 2-1s, or they were just walking around in our end it was like they had given up….A few times , the forwards had ran in deep into our zone to chip in the corner to headman the opposing attacker. I was worn out after the first 2 periods. We got to keep moving our feet even when we don’t have the ball, it will make the transition game easier…Also, I think that if guys want to play the minutes on the floor, then they got to run out there, not walk around like they are giving up , keep the spirit up guys…We just lost to the best team in the league” EDDY NG MAKES A CAMEO Blue Eagles Forward Ed Ng came by to say hello, he was playing in Gym A with another team.. CANT GET ENOUGH OF OBBHA Andy , Chico and Ivan played at 9 pm for the GREEN MEN, playing as spares , the 3 guys were able to scout out the Team wearing the ORANGE shirts. Those guys love to shoot NEXT GAME : We play ‘Caged Heat” at 6pm ! Sticks and Balls and Infamous Roaches stage a wild shootout with 29 goals.... 18-11 Infmaous Roaches over the Sticks and Balls....lots of goals in a fast paced game. What else can you say about this one! N`Fries just played one of their best games ever yet again! 13-2 over the hustle of the Millennium Flacons. GOBHA-Green Slime is a solid club. They have chemistry, speed, skill and maybe even some good looks. They took it to Executive Class 11-6 who could have passed better. The better passing team won. Green Men took a 7-2 first period lead.over the Blue Eagles......then you wonderr if the team leading will have a let down or if the team behind will make a push. Well Green Men had their hands full as the Blue Eagles came back to make it a 9-7 dericit....but the Green Men pulled away in the 3rd for a 14-7 win. Lot's of sweat for this effort from both squads. Body Count vs Agravadors...body count was in favour of the Agravadors this week as they finally had a decent size bench to work with, Problem was that the team Body Count was firing on all cylinders as they cruized to a 12-3 victory. GOBHA Yellow Knights vs A Few Good Men....closer game than the 10-3 margin in favour of the Knights. A Few Good Men just could not defend against a few good plays from Yellow. A hard working affair. Bar Down vs Raiders...Bar Down featured a try out for a new goalie named Ryan who came in with some high expectations after playing well in an underdog/upset performance in the Saturday league. Ryan did not disappoint in a 6-2 win over the Raiders. This was high-tempo ball hockey that had everyone on both sides gassed after it was over. Bravo boys! Undefined vs Caged Heat... an even and hard working match. Caged Heat kept making keeping it close thoughout the game, but finally could not close the gap on Undefined. 6-4 for the Undefined squad in a chess match style game that had some pace to it. A Few Good Men win a fun 6-5 classic over their friends from the N'Fries...... The healiner featured a wonderful game that makes OBBHA lovers salivate to be a part of. Two teams playing with heart and respect. It as 6-6 and then the Slime wore down the short-staffed Agravodors with a full hour of effort, finally pulling away for a 14-9 win. Body Count blow one goal lead for 7-7 tie with Infamous Roaches. A very well played match that show-cased the running game for both teams, their passing creativity and finally their endurance! An uncharacteristic undisciplined Body Count mistake cost them a yellow card and the win as the Infamous Roaches captain Eric "I can score" Belanger knotted up the affair happily with 5-seconds left via the penalty shot. GOBHA Yellow knights 16-10 over Green Men......the Green Men showed some spirit in this one and gave it their all right to the end to force the Knights to regroup to save a big lead and the win. Nice passing and play making from the Knights. Executive Class outclass the Bar Down squad 12-6. Loss of player due to red card hurts Bar Down as Executive Class begin to find some ball control in their game....but only in spurts. Dave Andre has solid game in net as Bar Down tested him often. Undefined 9-5 over Blue Eagles....focus on the fun boys. Raiders put together their best defensive game yet in 9-4 win over Sticks and Balls. Upset of the night a all predictions would have had the score reversed for this one....Mike in the Raider net was solid in the win. Caged Heat can look great sometimes....and this night was one of them. They did it against a very talented and hard working Millennium Falcons squad. The result was 8-4, but this one was a one or two goal game through most of the game until a late surged from Caged Heat warmed up the scorecard. Yellow Knights get ``ball hockey`` bounces in a 9-8 thriller over N`Fries... In a back and forth game that had teams unable to keep a lead like Tim Hudak.....in the end the GOBHA Yellow Knights got a couple of pin ball goals the were the difference for a 9-8 win. Body Count overcame a late arriving goalie with a player in the net making superalative saves to keep his team in it versus the Raiders. Once there were two fully equiped goalies between the pipes a very even game formed before the eyes of the onlookers. In the end a 9-7 hard working win went into the books for the Body Count who seem to winning the close ones these days. Bar Down took a 3-0 and were looking good until the GOBHA Green Slime got the wheels going for a 10-5 win. Green Men looked good last week in their win and then forgot the team play aspect of the game and this resulted in a 19-6 loss to the Undefined squad who looked great on this night. Executive Class held off a hard working Sticks and Balls team for very entertaining 8-7 barn burner. A classic case of the final score not being an indicator of how the game was played. Caged Heat and A Few Good Men were tied 3-3 for quite some time and the second period ended 4-3 for A Few Good Men. The third period belonged to the Men as they let the heat out of the cage for a 13-5 win. Agravadors vs Infamous Roaches....the Eric Belanger show! He scored at least 7 goals...10 maybe.... in a wild 12-9 victory over the Agravadors. Luc Martin tried to match but the Roaches defended him well late. A very interesting game. Millenium Falcons took a 5-1 lead over the Blue Eagles. Then the older team made the comeback for a 7-7 tie. A late goal for the Falcons made it 8-7, but the Blue Eagles made a final push to tie it up for good 8-8. Lot`s of fun!!! Short benched GOBHA-Yellow Knights ignite the offence for a 13-8 win. GOBHA-Green Slime 9-4 over the Sticks and Balls who are experiencing the A-div for the first time after winning the B-DIv in the winter and playing in the Spring session.....a whole new ball hockey game they found out! Welcome Green Men to the OBBHA. No they are not from outerspace....but the were out of this world in a 7-3 over the Millenium Falcons who came out with full "force" but could not score enough. Body Count 9-8 over Executive Class in the game of the night. Hectic pace from the get-go and a breathless finish. Executives Jason Prevost and Luc Martin with a bunch of Nordiques threw the ball around nicely at times, but came up short as the Body Count showed veteran like qualities to stifle the OBBHA brass and friends late in the game to preserve the one goal lead. A Few Good Men (formerly Old Navy and Global Friendship) welcomed the new Blue Eagles to OBBHA ball hockey....14-3. But as everyone knows, it takes some time for new teams to adjust to the non-stop OBBHA game. And let's face it...A Few Good Men are a top B-Div club these days! Predictions have them and the Yellow Knights as the top two clubs this session. Sunday schedule posted. Check link. New play-off format explained in blog...... Welcome back everyone for the 2011 fall session! New play-off format explained below. In total there are 6 play-off games that everyone plays! Fun! ************************************************************************************* Final Games full of entertainment that will have everyone smiling all summer! The B-Div final featured Les Woder and Bar Down...awesome game! Full of great plays and close calls. Bar Down jumped out to early leads while Les Woder kept coming back to close the gap. Then wtih the score 7-4 Bar Down and only two minutes left....Les Woder popped in two to make everyone in the French Palace take notice. Bar Down played great keep away for the final seconds to enjoy the victory. A final worth remembering. Godsons vs Killer Instinct in the very cool Blue Gym for 3 on 3 action...OZZIE! OZZIE! Godsons favourite man took to the nets for some laughs and fun. 14-8 for Killer Instinct who performed miracles with a small band of players. Old Navy and Sticks Balls renew their excellent rivalry 3 on 3 in the Blue Gym...always a close thriller and this one did not disappoint. 11-10 for the old guys. Millenium Falcons vs N``Fries...N`Fries took this one 9-7 as they finally got some bounces and breaks for a change. Justice! Royal Ballers vs Vanier Voodoo...Royal Ballers had more fans in the French Palace than the Royal will get in all of Canada for their upcoming visit. Noise makers were in full force for all Ballers goals. Voodoo say goodbye for a year to Chris who is off to Switzerland to play ball hockey...maybe he will bring back a new system for the Voodoo. Oh, and the final was 5-4 Royal Ballers Les Nordiques vs Is It In Yet!...the question mark team had a 3-0 lead and then the champs roared back for a 9-3 win. Nice pics Nords. National Champion goaltender Nathalie Girourd makes her debut in OBBHA... The Millennium Falcons and Killer Instinct were in a tight battle at 6-6 before the Falcons broke it open late for a 9-6 win. Female goalie Nathalie Girourd, who won a national championship last year for Ottawa in Newfoundland, was outstanding in a 9-8 win for Old Navy over the Grizzlies. Big effort from the fab four of the Grizzlies only to have Old Navy score with 2-seconds left to win it. The Royal Ballers helf a 5-1 lead over Bar Down in the Blue Gym. This was the first time that Bar Down was down in a game and they responded for an 8-6 thrilling comeback win. Is It In Yet? played a complete game in the Blue Gym as they dominated 3 on 3 play over Sticks and Balls for an 8-3 win and keep their chances at the title alive. This time the girls received freezies as a good will gesture for all the baking they have provided. Hmmmm...a loss when no treats were brought. Who is to blame? N``Fries score and play well defensivelly in 8-2 win over the Godsons. Vanier Voodoo probably played their best game of the session only to come up short against a very well disciplined Les Woder squad 5-2. Les Nordiques vs Das Blau....very important match. The Championship was on the line. Nords win and they win it all. They lose and Das Blau plus Is It In Yet? still have a shot at it. However the Nords win a hard fought game 7-5 to take another championship home! B-Div begin their play-off match-ups, while the A-Div continue with key games Sticks and Ball vs Das Blau...both teams were missing some key shooters. However Sticks and Balls outran and out-shot Das Blau over-all for an 8-4 key win. Royal Ballers (6) vs N`Fries (3)...a rematch from last week in the Blue Gym 3 on 3 that `N`Fries won. This time the 4 on 4 action in the wood gym seemed to favour the Royal Ballers in terms of time of possession with the ball. But goals were tough to come by. 2-2 after two periods with everyone thinking it might take the 5-man shoot-out to decide it. In the third period the pace was quick and the goaltending impressive. The teams traded goals until it was 4-4 and with 30 seconds the Royal Ballers put one in the top corner for a 5-4 thriller that had to be hearbreaking for N``Fries after such a well played game. Millenium Falcons (8) vs Les Woder (1) in the Blue Gym 3 on 3 action...Les Woder showed why they are the top club with a 14-5 win over the game Falcons. Grizzlies vs Les Nordiques in the Blue Gym...the Nords shooters were hot in the cool gym for a 16-9 win. Godsons (7) vs Bar Down (2)....18-6 Bar Down as the Godons played as well as they possibly could against a very skilled team. Killer Instinct (5) vs Vanier Voodoo (4)...everyone expected a close game. It was and low scoring too! 2-2 for the longest time until with 5-minutes left Vanier Voodoo potted the winner, Killer Instinct pushed for the tie until the very last few seconds. Awesome game as Voodoo take it 3-2 Is It In Yet? vs Old Navy...these two teams have met many times over the years and there have been some classics. This was another. Is It In Yet? scored a late goal and held on for a 6-5 win. N`Fries score ten big goals in Blue Gym on the Royal Ballers in 3 on 3 play... Is It In Yet! play another defensive gem as they stifled the Grizzlies 6-4. Les Woder were given a good run by Vanier Voodoo but prevailed 9-4. Bar Down 15-5 over Godsons who had a Godfather in nets and an OBBHA exec on D. Killer Instinct win 6-5 over Millenium Falxons in a very well played match, This was the game of the night as the OBBHA product was in full display. Nice job boys! N`Fries used the Blue Gym 3 on 3 game to their advantage as they used triangle passing plays to create scoring chance after scoring chance. They win it 10-8 as the Royal Ballers just fell short in closing minutes. Sticks and Balls 5-0 over the Nords who don`t check the schedule online it seems. Das Blau vs Old Navy...everyone loves it when these two teams meet up. Respect and fair-play not to mention entertaining ball hockey! This time Das Blau takes it 6-1. Is It In Yet! and Das Blau play chess match like defensive low scoring affair... Das Blau and Is It In Yet! entertained the crowd with a very good positional game that highlighted the goaltending, creattive passing and some timely goals. The last goal came with two minutes lefr to give the question mark boys the 4-3 win. Fun time! Godsons vs Royal Ballers...Godsons gave it their all with a short bench, but the Royal Ballers were up to the task for an 8-4 win Killer Instinct vs Vanier Voodoo in the Blue Gym...3 on 3 end to end action. 14-7 for the Voodoo dolls as they found their scoring touch on this night! Looked interesting on paper. It delivered. 10-8 Grizzlies. The Sticks and Balls enjoyed the baked cookies on this night more than ever! Bar Down win 11-5 over Vanier Voodoo despite not having a full dressed goalie between the iron pipes.....and their defenders made some sprawling saves that brought the house down a few times! N'Fries continue their impressive play with 9-1 win over Godsons. How did that one get by them again?? Das Blau 10-4 over the Grizzlies....it was closer than the score would indicate. The old guys used the Blue Gym 3 on 3 to their advantage with their strong shooting, excellent positional play and some nice passing. The game of the night is the headliner....Old Navy vs Sticks and Balls. Last winter's B-div finalists with Sticks and Balls winning thriller back then. This time the game was so very similar. Old Navy had the lead throughout the match and held a 6-5 lead with 2-minutes to go. Sticks and Balls scored 3 in the final 2-minutes to win 8-6. The turning point had to be Mike Kline of Old Navy hitting the iron 4 times...or this one would have been cake-walk for Old Navy. Speaking of cake....Sticks and Balls have some sweet fans. They bring in home made baked goods every game. The cupcakes were good, but on this night the choclolate chip cookies were the best! And the spoils tasted even better on this night for the boys from the Sticks and Balls! Marry that girl! Millenium Falcons get their first OBBHA win in franchise history! 7-3 over the Royal Ballers. Look out next week for some juiced up fans for the Royal Ballers. They may rival Epic Fails infamous fans or even "The Burn" fans.... Is It In Yet? hand Les Nordiques a 5-0 win due to a game forfeit and lose all tie-breakers for the remainder of the session. Les Woder were less than two minutes away from obtaining two shut-outs in a row (an OBBHA record held Nick Lamb and the Smoking Aces from Monday nights). They gave up 2 goals late but won the game in convincing fashion 7-2. Old Navy find their effort level as they dig in deep for 6-6 tie with the Grizzlies N'Fries surprise even themselves with ball contol and passing for 10-2 win over the chasing Millenium Falcons. Royal Ballers and Vanier Voodoo played even game almost to the end. The Royal Ballers has just a bit of an edge in possession time and this resulted in late goals to break a 4-4 tie and produce a 7-4 win. Bar Down 13-7 over Killer Instinct. The headliner was a dandy....Old Navy had not put together a full effort for a full game in this session. This time they ran with the Grizzlie from start to finish. A late goal from Old Navy tied this spirirted affair and their goalie made a wild sprawling save with one second left to preserve the tie. Wild! Les Woder 16-0 over Godsons.....Les Woder goalie Carl deserved the shut-out as the Godson had plenty of chances and never quit. Les Nordques 6-5 over Das Blau....and excellent match with solid goaltending by Nic and Diesel. Das Blau held the lead for some time before relinquishing it late. Sticks and Balls vs Is It In Yet?...lovely pair of names engage in great game. The question mark club was short players but gave a huge effort in the heat of the gym. Sticks and Balls had the numbers on the bench and just enough scoring to eke out a 6-5 win. Outstanding passing from Is It In Yet? kept them in the game and they had some chances to tie it in the last minute. The Royal Ballers and Killer Instinct engage in back and forth exciting game... Royal Baller vs Killer Instinct in the headliner....The French Palace fans loved the entertainment factor for this match. Killer Instinct held a 4-1 lead after one period and looked ready to add to it in the second. However they never beat the goalie for the Royal Balllers for the rest of the night. Meanwhile the Royalty got off of their high horse and played some solid D and chipped away at the lead to only a one goal deficit at 4-3 after two periods. It took an empty netter to make this a 5-3 exciting win for Killer Instinct. Sticks and Balls vs Das Blua in the Blue Gym...Defending Spring champs Das Blau vs Winter B-Div champs Stick and Balls. 3 on 3 actiion changed each teams strategy so it was an interesting game. Das Blau held a 6-5 lead late in the game before blowing it open for a 10-5 final. Grizzlies vs Les Nordiques...A game of momentum! How abotu a 9-3 lead for the Grizzlies. Then with 7 minutes left a 9-4 lead evaporates into a dicey 9-8 lead, The Grizzlies hung to for the win, but kudos for the Nords not giving up. And the had a chance to tie it up in the last minute! Vanier Voodoo vs N``Fries in the Blue Gym...3 on 3 action made both teams use time and space to their advantage as both teams were feeling the affects of the hard run. 7-5 for N`Fries in a tight and fun game. Is it In Yet! vs Old Navy...Is It In Yet! played a very impressive game. Their complete team effort resulted in a well deservied win. 8-2. Millenium Falxons vs Godsons...the night-cap is always the fun game it seems. The Godsions put together their most complete game ever! The MF gave it there all but had no luck around the net. Some very pretty goals from the Godsons ensured the 2-points in a 10-4 win. Old friends reunite for more great ball hockey with Old Navy and Das Blau....... Royal Ballers vs Bar Down...no royal wedding dress for the Ballers in this one. Bar Down shut them down and moved the ball around very nicely for some pretty plays for goals and good chances. 8-2 in a good running game. Millenium Falcons vs Les Woder...Les Woder had some nice passing plays of their own for an 11-2 win over the Millenium Falcons. The Star Wars crew threw a rookie goalie into the death star and he had fun, but the balls found their way through his force field....gotta love this team name....so much ``space`` to work with. Is It In Yet! vs Grizzlies in the Blue Gym...both teams wanted no part of the 3 on 3 action and went 4 on 4. This produced a winter classic in the spring...both teams played the winter B-Div in the Blue Gym and delivered some excellent entertainment for the French Palace fans. This time a goal by the Grizzlies with 50-seconds left tied game 6-6. Sticks and Balls vs Les Nordiques...some skill and hustle from both teams made for a compelling match. The Nords held on, but barely, for a 5-4 exciting win. Killer Instinct vs N`Fries in the Blue Gym...tried the 3 on 3 action at the outset and this tested the endurance for everyone! Then they went back to 4 on 4 for the second and third periods. Lots of goals and close calls....9-7 for N`Fries as Killer Instinct will be tossing and turning as they remember so many missed opportunities. Das Blau vs Old Navy...last spring`s finalists renewed their good old days once again for some great fun. Das Blau won that great battle last year and are the defending champs. But they tempted fate on this night with only one spare as there were a few `momma boys`` who did not show. Somehow they gutted out an 11-6 win over the always game Old Navy. Vanier Voodoo vs Godsons...as all the mom`s went to bed after their big day, these two clubs were the late show of the night. A great two-way game broke out from the get-go. Some chemistry on both teams provided some interesting plays and goals. The goalies put on a fine display for the insomniacs watching this one. 7-3 Voodoo. Wedding bliss! The Love for ball hockey shines on opening night for the Spring. First game of the night features the Godsons vs Killer Instinct....the new team `Killer Instinct`had some good team chemistry and that killer instinct around the net. 11-2 was the final. N`Fries vs Bar Down...a good old fashioned hard running game. Bar Down had more finish and that was the difference. 10-1 Old Navy vs Les Nordiques in the Blue Gym....how about a little 3 on 3 action! Lot`s of fun plays with this format and everyone was exhausted with the non-stop action for an hour! First two periods were 3 on 3, then the teams agreed to play 4 on 4.....the debate still rages on which is more fun! Nords show some sniper off in 13-7 win. Das Blau vs Is It In Yet!....last years Spring Champs are back and Das Blau had smiles on their faces as they entered the French Palace. They cruised in style for a 7-1 win. Vanier Voodoo vs Millenium Falcon....the new team came in at warp speed for the first few shifts, but then the OBBHA endurance test came into "the force" for an 11-4 lesson from the "OBBHA non-stop game seasoned" Vanier Voodoo. The OBBHA game claims many so called "in shape" victims and there were one or two for this game. 3 on 3 for the full game....shorter benches made for a game with plenty of ebbs and flows to it. Grizzlies vs Sticks and Balls...Game of the night! 8-8 tie......lead changes several times until finally with 3-seconds left the B-Div champs from the Sunday winter league (Sticks and Balls) tied it up!!! Always a classic tight game whenever the two teams meet. Les Woder vs Royal Ballers...two new teams to the OBBHA. They adapted quickly and this made for a well played game. Les Woder slowly took over the game in the second period for a 4-1 lead. After that the two teams went goal for goal as the Les Woder kept the 3-goal for a 9-6 win. Sticks and Balls win B-Div and Orange win A-Div in very exciting final games Old Navy has come a long way from the days when this online individual registration team was called Global Friendship. Under the steady guidance of team captain Terry Sicard the team changed name, colour and identity...but remained one of the "older" teams in the league (but not even close to the oldest). They became one of the classiest OBBHA teams by taking the 4-F motto and promoting it game in game out. This time in the final against the young Sticks and Balls franchise they played an intense, respectful and fun championship game. Sticks and Balls enjoyed the game itself and even took 9-6 decision to take out the trophy for a few nights. Young vs Old....and all had a wonderful time. Great job everyone! Over in the A-Div....Team Orange came out with speed and a ferocious forecheck to jump out to a 5-0 lead over the two-time defending champion GOBHA-Green Slime. Jordan Pynn of Orange looked unbeatable in the net at this point. Then the defending champs showed some true character and kept chipping away at the lead in the third period to close it to 6-4. The final was 7-4 in a very well played final. Great entertainment boys! Sacred Blue take 9th seed with 6-2 defensive gem over the Chiefs. Bar Down take 7th seed with hard run 6-3 win over Infamous Roaches....great goaltending from the Raoches (glove saves were impressive) and some nice shots from Alex Martin that were saved and that found some top corners. 5th seed goes to Wolves as the howling was heard through the French Palace in their 11-5 win over the Agravadors. 3rd seed is the surprise as the Raiders upset Body Count 10-7. Back in the B-Div.... -Grizzlies take 3rd seed with 7-3 win over the hurting Professional Slackers -5th seed goes to Is It In Yet? as they outscored N'Fries 14-8 -7th seed belongs to Caged Heat for 13-1 over GOBHA-Yellow Knights -9th seed is Epic Fail for wild 11-10 win over Typhoons Orange and Old Navy win tight matches in key games to advance to the Finals Orange had to win to reach the finals vs the GOBHA-Green Slime next week and they did. But the Body Count gave them a strong run. In a very entertaining and fun game the Orange team scored from the point several times to take a 6-4 win. Jordan Pynn in the net and Howard Wong were the stars for the Orange boys. Grizzlies took the Professnional Slackers 12-8....the Grizzlies are scoring these days and this gave them a chance to advance to the finals, but the Old Navy had other ideas later in the evening. Bar Down and Sacred Blue were tied 5-5 late until Bar Down pushed for late goals to take an 8-5 hard earned win. N`Fries 11-4 over Epic Fail. A position style game was well played. Karine in the net or N``Fries was the difference as the they pulled away in the third period. Wolves score late goals for 8-5 win over Infamous Roaches. Two very hard running teams provided a hard sweat and hard working goals. Old Navy needed a tie or win to advance to the finals. They did it with a 9-7 win over Sticks and Ball...and these two will meet again next week in the Finals. From underdog on this night to the favourite next week....Old Navy is 2-0 over Sticks and Balls. Should be a very fun and exciting final!! Chiefs vs Agravadors.....Chiefs played well and deserved better than a 7-3 loss. But the sweat was on and the game was fun. Caged Heat vs GOBHA-Yellow Knights... a wild 12-12 tie. This one was back and forth and ended up with a late goal to tie it from Mich of the Knights. Raiders vs GOBHA-Green Slime...Raiders came within a whisker or two for the upset. Raider goaltending was outstanding. 7-6 for the Green guys though. Typhoon vs. Is It In Yet?...6-3 defensive battle for the question mark team. A bit too much lip and a few too many penalty shots as a result. Less talk and more fun-clean play boys! Orange Fab Four almost pull off major upset before succumbing to G-Slime... Infamous Roaches and Sacred Blue were told their game would end in a tie by the voice of the French Palace...and they did it in fine fashion 7-7. It took a couple of late goals from the Infamous Roaches for this thriller to end on a the high note of entertainment. Agravadors and Wolves played an excellent game of end to end ball hockey with fine goaltending at both ends....Ray Pelletier of the Agravadors as stellar in the 5-3 win for the Agravadors. Low scoring, but tons of chances. Body Count took advantage of the Raiders 10-1 as the Raiders looked a little lost without their leader in the line-up. Orange only had 4 players for the game as quite few of their roster players were away in Philly for a tournament. They played their hearts out and only the fine goaltending of Green Slime's Dave Andre kept they from winning this one. 8-5 for the defending champs who avenged an early season loss to Orange. A dream final for the rubber match? Bar Down bar none...well one. 9-1 over the Chiefs. Is It In Yet? took the Heat out of the Cage 13-2 N'Fries 12-10 over the Typhoons in a classic Blue Gym Game! The Professional Slackers are hurting with some key injuries...but put up a good effort against the always hard working Old Navy. After running the table in the regular season the Slackers lose their second straight play-off game. But Old Navy is a veteran laden club that seems to know when the opponent can be had. Fun stuff in 10-7 key win for Old Navy. Sticks and Balls eke out a nailbiter over the Grizzlies 8-7. How can you not love these close games in the top four!? Epic Fail. Up 5-0 over the Yellow Knights....then the epic failure. 13-10 for the Knights. Some very pretty goals were scored in this one. Sticks and Balls score with one second left to win play-off game over Slackers Play-offs: Chiefs brought out another ``Karine Hebert`like goalie....female and good! She kept her Chiefs in it until with the score 8-7 for the young and energetic Infamous Roaches, the youth squad took over for a 12-7 win. Is It In Yet? snuck out an 8-6 win over Epic Fail. Evenly played with some fine goaltending. Thanks for helping out Epic Fail Jordan! Orange defeat Raiders 7-2 in a game that was closer than the score indicates. The Professional Slackers lose their first game and it is the first play-off game....no more running the table talk. The Slackers are bit battered and bruised from playing in the OBBHA Saturday league and the Sunday league...but still gave it their full effort. Sticks and Ball however came up with the clutch game. They never trailed and at 5-5 they never stopped until scoring the winner with less than a second left in the game! Sacred Blue vs Agravadors....Some Professional Slackers helped out the Agravadors to make this a hard working affair...6-6 after two periods featuring end to end action. Sacred Blue win 10-8 as their absent goalie soaked up the sun. Great looking game. Caged Heat vs N`Fries....hey N``Fries plays a game that does not end in a tie or one goal difference! 9-6 they win over the much improving Caged Heat. The Green Wolves beat the White Wolves 11-8....Pat Lemay was a factor. And not as a Game Manager but as a solid netminder. He stoned Struts several times to sway the momentum his teams way. Lots of fun boys!!! GOBHA-Yellow Knights vs Typhoons...the Knights are playing like champions. They were tied up 5-5 with the quick Typhoons club and then scored the winning goals in the final minute of play. A very exciting game. GOBHA-Green Slime vs Body Count.....worthy of a top four play-off game. Great action and lots of creative play. 7-6 Green Slime late in the game...then Body Count had to take some chances to score and the deadly Green Slime counter-attack made it a 10-6 final. Old Navy vs Grizzlies...8-8 final. This game had it all. Penalty shot and amazing end to end chances. Whew! Sticks and Balls stage late rally for win over Caged Heat to get top 4 rank Stick and Balls were tied up 4-4 late in the third period with Caged Heat. Caged Heat were not going away as they continued there spirited effort for the full hour. Finally Sticks and Balls broke through for a huge 8-4 win that vaulted them into the top four B-Div play-off group. They edged out Is It in Yet? due to the fact that they had one more win in the standings......and their head to head 11-5 win over them earlier in the session would have put them in the promised land had they tied in wins anyways. The tie-breaker is wins, head to head, GF- GA and finally least number of yellow/red cards. The surprise of the A-Division? The Raiders!!! They edge out the Infamous Roaches for 4th place. With the Roaches 6-4 losers to the first place Orange squad 6-4....the Raiders had to do more than win. They had to win big. Going into their match with Sacred Blue, the ever improving Raiders new a win would tie them with the Roaches and that their head to head game was a 4-4 tie earlier in the session as well. So the math showed them they had to win by 5 goals to force the next tiee-breaker (least number of cards) or win by 6 or more to take the 4th and final spot. They put their game together for a 15-4 win to leave no doubt. Darn! Should have taken the Vegas odds back in January! Wolves win 7-6 over Bar Down in a very well played game. Too bad parts of this one were not filmed for the website...some nice plays were made not to mention some nice saves! Body Count and Green Slime win by large margins, but Chiefs and Agravadors make them work hard for it. Grizzlies ensure their top 4 play-off visit with exciting 10-8 win over the Typhoons. This win knocked the Typhoons out of the top four. The Typhoons looked to have this one in the bag wtih a 3-goal lead...but no OBBHA lead is safe as everyone knows! Great comeback win for the Grizzlies! Is It In Yet? 9-2 over Epic Fail in a hard run. Professional Slackers win 12-7 over a stubborn GOBHA-Yellow Knights team.....the Slackers win puts them at 9-0 and the only Sunday night team with a perfect record. Careful boys...no Sunday team has ever run the table to the Championship yet! Save the best for last. N'Fries vs Old Navy. How about another one goal game that features 2 penalty shots in the last minute of play for the team behind trying to tie it up. On top of that N'Fries hits the cross-bar in the last minute too. 9-8 for Old Navy. We have never seen a team tie and lose more one goal games than N'Fries. They are the darlings of the French Palace! New nick-name for this group could be the "Cardiac Kids"....too much fun as always with the two veteran teams. Thanks for the good time.... Orange edge the very improved Raiders squad 6-5 in an entertaining nail-biter The Raiders built a 4-1 lead and looked like they were going to roll over the first place Orange bunch. But the first place club is their for a reason and showed some resilience and made the comeback to take a 5-4 lead. The Raiders tied it at 5 before James Brown netted the winner, but not before the Orange goalie made an amazing diving glove save! N``Fries rode the goaltending of Karine Hebert and found some confidence on offence for a 13-7 win over the Epic Fail. Body Count ran from start to finish for a 16-3 win over the Chiefs who kept up with them utilizing a larger bench than usual. GOBHA Yellow Knights vs Sticks and Balls.....the Yellow Knights stayed with necessities (uhh, sticks and balls, yea that's it) until the third period. Then this exciting young team put it away for an 11-8 win. GOBHA Green Slime vs Wolves.....The Wolves continue to play well and derved better than the 9-4 score for the defending champs as Dave Andre was huge in nets for the Green guys. Nice effort all around. Professional Slackers vs Old Navy....everyone was looking forward to this one. Two teams that everyone loves to play for they get the OBBHA 4-F motto and they are pretty good ball hockey teams to boot! 10-3 Slackers as goaltending was the difference. Infamous Roaches vs Bar Down....two young teams that can run! They play the OBBHA style game with conviction. So much fun to watch these teams play. And the boys had some fun themselves! The story on this one was Bar Down playing their best game all year. Roaches lost their goalie due to an injury when they were down 4-0 and had to play 5 on 4 (as the rules are so that everyone can continue to get some exercise...as the score really doesn't matter in the end anyways) until another goalie could help them out. They only gave up one goal with the empty net! And thanks to Agravador goalie Ray for helping the boys out. Is It In Yet? back in Yellow vs Typhoons....9 out 10 games on this night were not played like this one. Both teams forgot the 4-F's and forgot that when a player wins the race into the corners, they are to back off and reach in. We will continue to teach them and work with them to get it right. 6-6 tie as this was a fitting end. Agvavadors vs Sacred Blue...shoot out in the A-Div! Lots of goals and lots of shots too! 12-9 Sacred Blue. Goalies dream or nightmare? Frank Masse in the Sacred Blue net was nominated and at his comedic best if not between the pipes on academy award night. Game Manager Pat Lemay gets the best supporting actor award for his role in the 'Frank Masse show'. Caged Heat vs Grizzlies...the Grizzlies simply worked hard for this 10-6 win. Plain old hard running and hard work from both teams. Great game to end the night. Jordan Pynn gets a rare OBBHA shut-out with 6-0 win over the Sacred Blue... Orange is playing some fine ball hockey as was displayed in their 6-0 win over Sacred Blue. Jordan Pyne got the shut-out and had the bulk of his work in the first two periods. Then Orange played great defence as the Sacred Blue ran out of gas in the third. You can count on one hand the number of shut-outs recorded in well over 2,000 OBBHA games! For the record this is Smoking Aces goalie Nick Lamb's territory. Chiefs lose 9-4 to Infamous Roaches but played a much improved game. They passed and created wonderful plays from drop passes, reverse plays on defence, and some good old fashioned nice pass plays. Fun to watch with Yoshi! Professional Slackers used crisp pass plays to Cage the Heat 9-4. The Slackers are in a zone these days....with or without the big crowd support. Some big games coming up for this undefeated club. Thanks to the Slackers from everyone who enjoyed the gift of doughnuts from Chris and the boys (was this a shot at the other teams for their impressive defensive game???)....too bad they did not get the shut-out for their efforts! Old Navy were telling old stories about their "Global Friendship" days....much like the current days for Epic Fail. Old Navy, a solid B-Div favourite the last couple sessions, showed Epic Fail how to play in both ends of the Blue Gym in the French Palace. Epic Fail never stopped running though! Body Count edged the Bar Down boys 7-6. A well played game that was played at a high tempo. Great to watch. Big win for Body Count to say the least! Typhoons 14-3 over the GOBHA-Yellow Knights.....one of those games. GOBHA- Green Slime 7-5 over the Agravadors...two older teams playing the game with all their heart. Nice to see this one be a close game. Everyone seemed to enjoy that fact. Grizzlies take out N'Fries 8-4.....this one sas a very close game in all aspects. Late goals put it away for the ever improving Grizzlies. Their strategy employed from the back to end to get the ball out is quite impressive. Nice control and movement....which is hard to for the opponents to establish any kind of forechecking game. Raiders surprise Wolves 9-6.....the Raiders have found their stride and some wins in the process. The Wolves were howling once again as some controversial calls went against them. But this team is all about second effort and praise for all. Always a good sweat and great plays when the Wolves are involved. Sticks and Balls play their most complete game in franchise history as they upset a very strong Is It In Yet? club. From the goalie out to the forwards this Sticks and Balls club looked polished as they grew stronger and stronger as the game wore on. Maybe the yellow colour should come back for Is It In Yet? as the blacks brought no good fortune. N`Fries weather a furious comeback attempt from young energetic Typhoons. Body Count continue to play a very good positional game, sprinkled with creative pass and run plays....add in some good defence and solid netminding and a 5-3 low scoring game over the Sacred Blue 5-3 comes as no surprise. They were pleasently surprised with Sacred Blue`s game....which has improved greatly. Fun game. Frank was on fire yet again in the Sacred Blue net....for a loveable valentine anyways. Old Navy slowly wore down the GOBHA-Yellow Knights 11-5. Martin Rodeau was a factor in the net for the Knights. Old Navy debuted Doran Corkum in net for his first ever OBBHA league play game. He had played in the OBBHA 2010 XMAS Classic and was part of that play-off shoot-out that went 19 rounds!! GOBHA-Green Slime and Infamous Roaches tie 9-9 in another classic. Remember those memorable play-off games last session...and that 2-1 game! This time lot`s of goals...but the last 4 or five minutes nobody could get that 10th and winning goal...close calls and great saves had everyone breathless at the end of this awesome game. N`Fries took an early lead and built on it until late in the third period. Then the young Tyhoons staged a comeback that saw them come up just one goal short 9-8. This was game was played at full throttle the whole way through. Great run. Grizzlies 13-6 over Sticks and Balls.......Grizzlies simply found their scoring edge. Raider are starting to find their game. This time 7-4 over Bar Down. Small bench hurt the Bar Down squad for sure. Some nice pass-plays from both teams. Is It In Yet? hold on for 8-7 win as Caged Heat did everything but tie it up wth a late surge. Paul was spectacular between the pipes for the Caged Heat. Wolves are looking like a cohesive unt this session for sure. Ask the Chiefs as they were dismantled 10-2 by a team that passed around them and read all the individual rushes to take control of the game. Passing always produces successful plays. Agravadors vs Orange.....Orange used ball control to their advantage for a 13-5 win over the Agravadors. Professional Slackers vs Epic Fail....First place vs last place. This ended up being a very well played and closely played match. It was close right until the late stages of the game. Epic Fail showed that there just is not that much of a difference between an undeated team and a winless team in the Sunday night B-Div. If not for a strong game from the Profesional Slackers goalie Chris Rutt, this game could have gone to the Epic Fail. Epic Fail goalie Steve had a solid game as well. Slackers put it away late in the 3rd for a 10-5 decision that was in doubt for quite some time. Great effort from everyone in an entertaining match. Grey Cup is better than Super Bowl as is the wild action in an OBBHA night.. Any game that Canada can come up with is better than any American game...Canadians are more active than their cross border friends...Canadians love ball hockey.... - the vast majority of OBBHA members played the game they love instead of being American couch potatoes or cheese heads. Pack on the pounds boys while the rest of us tested our endurance.... Raiders 12-4 over the Chiefs....the only difference in this game was passing. The Raiders mastered the game on this night with creative offensive passing that resulted in numerous glorious scoring chances. The poor Chief goalie worked so hard only to have out numbered situations leave him at the mercy of the Raider snipers. The Chiefs tried to use the North-South game, but the east-west strategy was the one to employ...too many individual rushes and low percentage shots when a short easy pass was the play. Hopefully there was a fun lesson learned. Wolves lose 7-4 to Body Count on a couple of controversial calls, but this was the Super Game of the night.....great run with lots of passing. Not the mention the goaltending that was not too shabby. 1-0 for Infamous Roaches and Orange as both teams still came out for a scrimmage....while the Bar Down and Agravadors squads fell into the American void for the evening. Hey CFL rules are the best! More plays in the last 2-minutes of a CFL game than in an entire quarter of an NFL game! GOBHA-Green Slime edge Sacred Blue 9-8...a lead for the Green guys was almost lost as Sacred Blue never gave up. They almost tied it up late too! Thanks for a great game to end the night boys! Sticks and Balls surprise N'Fries 15-10.....lots of goals and lots of nice set-ups. Too bad this one had to end....ok, so the goalies were glad the mesh stopped moving. Old Navy comes out with a short bench and dominated Caged Heat 15-7......Caged Heats 3-game winning streak stopped. Old Navy must be considered favourites now as they continue to impress. Is It In Yet? become Americans and drop a 1-0 decision to the all Canadian Professional Slackers. Grizzlies and GOBHA-Yellow Knights play an intense and edgy affair that had many lead changes and was tight all game. 10-10 in a wild thriller. Typhoons 14-3 over Epic Fail....the young guys were on top of their game and Epic Fail could not match the work ethic...but an abundance of goodwill and laughs on both sides. GOBHA Green Slime shocked by Orange 7-2 in the big of upset of the night... The new squad is for real. With Jordan Pynn in the nets Orange gave the Green Slime and their amazing goalie Dave Andre the bar to be reached. Strong running with creative work in both ends of the gym showcased the top skill level for Sunday nights. Smiles from Green Slime as they took some good natured teasing for having their long winning streak come to an end. Caged Heat win a franchise high 3rd game in a row with a 10-7 decision over Epic Fail....This one was tied after 2-periods at 6-6 and then some quick strikes by the Caged Heat early in the third changed the tide. Epic Fail worked hard to come back but ran out of gas. Then the wedding bells were heard..... Chiefs 9-8 over Bar Down. Another one goal game for Bar Down and this time they drop one. The Chiefs surprised everyone with a goal scoring outburrst....maybe it was justice as they always run hard but aren`t always rewarded with the red light. Fun and exciting to watch this one right to the final seconds. Typhoons 9-2 over the Sticks and Balls (love that team name).....Sticks and Balls were in this one, but Rob in the nets for the "bad weather" team was the difference. Sacred Blue 6-5 over Wolves....very well played and intense game. Too bad one team had to lose. Frank Massie in the nets had a strong game for Sacred Blue, while Ryan in the nets for the Wolves made many saves that were spectacular. Sell out crowd wacthed this one and left pleased with the entertainment value. Old Navy are getting into a groove.....10-6 over the Grizzlies who are looking good in the B-Div since moving down. However the Old Navy is a solid group of veterans who play the Blue Gym stategically well.. Grizzlies worked hard to make a game of it. Raiders and Agravadors tie 6-6......Even game that had the fans talking about how well played and evenly matched this game was. North South was the strategy employed by both squads, which resulted in many shots on goal throughout the hour. Professinoal Slackers used their non-stop hustle to outlast the friendly boys from `N`Fries. Karine Hebert had a strong outing for N`Fries but this was not enough in a 10-6 decision for the Slackers. Great action and the 4-F motto was on display from both these teams as usual! Infamous Roaches vs Body Count....Body Count goalie Derek Daley came into the "French Palace" in his happy-go-lucky ways and cheerily announced that tonight was a "must win" night for his team. Then he goes out and was a huge factor in an 8-6 win over the Infamous Roaches. This OBBHA classic was played at a high skill level and there was not much to choose from the two great teams. Is It In Yet? vs GOBHA-Yellow Knights....all bets had Is It In Yet? winning this one. But you never know in the OBBHA! 12-8 for the Knights who took an early lead only to have the ? mark team back into it....then score in bunches to take a commanding lead and the 2 points. Cars would not start, faces were red cold, but everyone got a great sweat on! Bar Down win another one goal game 6-5 over the fun Sacred Blue squad. So many missed chances at both ends. Could have gone either way! Caged Heat staqe the upset of the night with 13-6 win over the defending champions GOBHA-Yellow Knights. The Heat got an early lead and the Knights had no answer as their shooters were as cold as the winter night. The Heat found the cage more than usual in this one. Body Count welcomed back goaler Derek Daley from inury. He kept them in it for two periods as the Green Slime were questioning themselves only leading 3-1 after 2 periods. But they took over in the final period for an 8-2 win....a featured a new goalie from Quebec City, Dominik Giroux. OBBHA signings are now bigger news than the Sens! Professional Slackers held a 4-0 first period only to have the Grizzlies come back to tie it at 5-5 after 2 periods. The Professional Slackers took it 7-5 in the end as the always sold goaltender Chris Rutt shut the door down in the net and a clutch goal were the differences.....edge of your seat game. Raiders surprise Infamous Roaches with a very good run in a 4-4 thriller. Well played with lots of skilled play. Exciting right to the final whistle. Sticks and Balls 5-2 over Epic Fail. A very low scoring affair as these teams were evenly matched throughout the game. Fun for everyone as the goaltenders stole the show. Wolves are getting some breaks to go along with their impressive work ethic and fast running. 9-1 over the Agravadors. Someone is buying Ryan a beer for ruining his shut-out bid....he had to work hard in this one regardless of the score. N`Fries tie yet another game!!! 9-9 with Is It In Yet? These games are so much fun to play or watch, You had to be there for all the momentum shifts, nice goals, great saves and wild bounces.... Orange look impressive with win over the Chiefs. They are moving the ball around very nicely. The Chiefs started to adapt to this style of play and perhaps they should employ it mroe often as they looked comfortable with it....with some nice chances generated as a result. 10-0 was the final. Old Navy and the Typhoons......Old legs vsYoung legs (and Lawrence). Typhoons held the lead and then the Old Navy showed they had something left for the comeback win. 12-9. You have to good to be lucky....or is it the other way around? Some odd goals went in against the Typhoons. Wind Chill on the coldest night of the year can`t stop hot and close action... Bar Down scores with one second left in game to edge Agravadors 7-6 Orange hang on for dear life for 7-6 win as Body Count pulls the goalie and has chances to tie. Dave Andre the diffence once again as he makes great saves look easy. 12-5 Green Slime over Raiders 12-5 Chiefs stay close only down 4-3 to Sacred Blue...then a post gets in the way of a tie game and Sacred Blue captain JP gets hot for 5 goals! 9-3 Sacred Blue. Wolves found themselves up 4-3 after one period of play . The Infamous Roaches had a goalie as cold as the night air in the first...then he shines the rest of the way only giving up one goal for a 9-5 win. Is It In Yet? wins 8-7 over the Grizzlies. The "Grizz" would not go away in this one. New goalie for the team in question? Michael Pelletier makes some big saves in last minute to get his first win! Epic Fail kept close with the defending champs until the Yellow Knights pulled away for a 13-9 win. Epic Fail lost some of their signature class and composure....their awesome fans would be none to happy to hear this! Professional Slackers are a strong Saturday OBBHA club and are proving themselves no slouches in the Sunday night B-Div as they dismantled the Typhoons 10-3. Old Navy with all their veterans and knowledge of how to play a strategy game in the Blue Gym gave an OBBHA style lesson on how to play the OBBHA game.....18-7 was the lesson over the new kids on the block "Sticks and Balls". Love the way Old Navy plays the game....implementing the OBBHA 4-F's at all times. Class Act. N'Fries leads the OBBHA in franchise ties and one goal games. This time it was a 6-5 loss to the Caged Heat. The Caged Heat finally get a one goal win after so many close games did not go in their favour....maybe the lucky bounces are finally coming their way! Caged Heat on a -23 night.... New teams amd New Year make for some classic OBBHA opening games. 4 somewhat "new" teams joined the Sunday divisions to generate even more excitement to start off 2011.....and to burn off all the turkey and stuffing! In the A-Division...... -Agravadors score 10 as they doubled up the Chiefs (fomerly Ottawa Maple Leafs) 10-5. Heroic effort in the net for the Chiefs as a regular player jumps between the pipes. -Infamous Roaches coming off an appearance in the final last session found themselves in a game vs Sacred Blue. This back and forth game ended 8-6 for the young lads on the Roaches....but Sacred Blue showed they could sweat along with them. Well played! Oh and note that a goaltender has yet to score in the OBBHA, but Sacred Blue`s Frank Massie almost became the first. Almost.....but it did get a rise out of the crowd! -The score was 9-0 for the GOBHA Green Slime. But two things must be noted. The Bar Down squad played very well and Dave Andre was very deserving regarding the shut-out! -New squad Orange found out just how much the endurance is tested in the OBBHA game. The Wolves always run well and this made for a very evenly played match. 3-1 was the final in a goaltending battle as the Wolves prevailed in this thriller. -Body Count vs Raiders. 11-1 Body Count as they were relentless using an attack style offence. The Raiders played their hearts out and just could not find the net as many soring attempts whistled just wide. In the B-Division.... -Is It In Yet? had to play a very defensive game as they had an unproven player/goalie in the nets. 6-3 over Old Navy. Looking for a little less agravation to go along with the intensity in this one guys....must be the Russian hang-over (sorry had to somehow sneak that in there). GOBHA Yellow Knights began there title defence and this one was a shoot-out as the OBBHA is sometimes known for. 14-11 for the defending champs over N`Fries. Flu hit N`Fries goalie Karine, while Martin was shaking off the rust after sitting out a session. Typhoons 7-4 over Caged Heat as these two teams renewed their acquaintances....always an entertaining game when they meet. Fun and close. Epic Fail moved over from the Saturday league, while the Grizzlies moved down from the Sunday A-div. 12-4 for the Grizzlies as they found a liking to the quick pass and shoot game. Epic Fail were as entertaining as ever. Professional Slackers from the Saturday league as well vs the new team Sticks and Balls....love that name! Great game to love too as the new squad proved they belong only losing 9-7 to one of Saturday's power-house teams. For the late game this one had tons of energy! ******************2010************************ Wow! GOBHA-Green Slime win very thrilling final over Infamous Roaches 7-6. In another classic battle between these very impressive clubs. Youth and exuberance on the Infamous Roaches side versus experience and skill on the Green Slime bench. 2-2 after one period as memories of the 2-1 round robin game came to mind. Green Slime took a 5-3 lead after two periods as Michael Kaboucnhi was a key factor as he dazzled the crowd with some very creative passing and moves. In seemed the Green Slime were going to coast to the championship leading 7-4 late in the game, but the Infamous Roaches just kept working and cut the margin to 7-6. A furious last 2-minutes ensued and Dave Andre made some huge saves to keep this game from going to a shoot-out. The crowd gave both teams a huge round of applause for a most entertaining match. As the Green Slime had their photo taken for their second consevutive championship, the Infamous Roaches showed true OBBHA style sportspmanship with a salute of banging sticks and then helf them high in the air for a final tribute....... the way it awalys should be!!!! Third Seed goes to Body Count. Agravadors get 4th Ottawa Maple Leafs scored at 6-5 upset win over the surging Sacred Blue for the 5th Seed. But wait! Many who turned off their TV sets from the OBBHA channel missed a huge comeback and wild ending. The Grizzlies pawed their way back into an 11-11 tie to force a shoot-out! Wolves score on their first 2 shooters, then missed three. Grizzlies scored on their first shooter, then missed 4. 12-11 for the Wolves in a Christmas delight! Over in the Blue Gym the B-div games were putting in their share of highlight packages for the late night sports shows..... The B-Div champions are the GOBHA-Yellow Knights with their 13-11 win over Is It In Yet? The Yellow Knights kept taking leads and hanging on to them. Lot's goals yes, but tons of effort from the goaltenders right down both rosters. This had it all....great plays, missed chances, end to end action. The 3rd seed game was a wild one.....Old Navy was a streaky team all session. starting out with 5 losses then 5 wins. How about breaking open a tight game to take a 10-6 lead in the third period only to seee the N'Fries come back to tie it at 10-10 and score the winning goal with 3-seconds left. 11-10! Darn no shoot-out! Typhoons win 11-1 over Caged Heat for the 5th seed. Like the weather on Sunday, when it rains it pours. Caged Heat score on their first shot of the game only 2-seconds into the game. Wierd! Tyhoons goalie "Rob" did not let a goal in during the warm-up, then lets in the first shot on goal. However he shut the door down for the rest of the game!! Final Seeding games are set after exciting December 5th matches completed. How about that B-Div: -Is It In Yet? will take on the GOBHA-Yellow Knights for the top seed….their games are always a treat to watch. -N’Fries vs Old Navy for the Third Seed….another tie? No-way , a shoot-out will decide this most likely! -Typhoon vs Caged Heat for the 5th Seed….high scoring or low scoring? Place your bets. N’Fries upset Is It In Yet? 9-7 in a very well played game. Old Navy used their old style of pass and shoot to perfection in an 11-5 win over Caged Heat Typhoons lost to the GOBHA-Yellow Knights 13-8 in a sweaty game. Goaltending will decide this one for sure! -Third Seed is interesting with the Agravadors meeting the Body Count. -Fifth Seed sees the Ottawa Maple Leafs vs an improving Sacred Blue squad -7th seed if up for grabs between the Raiders and Bar Down -Grizzlies vs Wolves as the animals battle for survival for the 9th spot. GOBHA-Green Slime tuned up for the final night with a 9-4 win over the Agravadors. Is there a goaltending controversy on the Green team after a rookie posted a first period shut-out? Raiders scored a franchise high 12-2 win over the Ottawa Maple Leafs soon to be the Chiefs…whoooowns de Chiefs? Infamous Roaches roared out to a 5-0 lead the Body Count could never recover from . 14-8 the final as the third period was a wild one with the two team trading goal after goal. Sacred Blue 9-4 over the Grizzlies in a match that was much closer than the score would tell you. Wolves edged the Bar Down boys 7-6 Grey Cup Day and Round 2 of A-Div Round Robin Play-offs: How about those Als from Montreal! See you at the parade!! 2-1 final? Yes that’s right. An awesome display of goaltending at both ends. The offences were clicking, but the saves were spellbinding to the shooters. GOBHA-Green Slime wanted to be tested and they were by the marvellously fast and talented Infamous Roaches. Both teams and all the fans left for home happy after this classic. Dave Andre was a star for the Green Slime in the net as the Roaches had the edge in play. Bar Down edged the Raiders in a great match. 7-6 for the Bar Down as both teams went to the wire in another OBBHA nail-biter. Sacred Blue outlast Wolves 8-6 and they were lucky there wasn’t more time left on the clock when this one ended….the Wolves were howling near the end as they kept pressing and scoring late goals. Whew! Body Count played their usual consistent game as they slowly but surely dismantled the Agravadors. A good run and skilled play. As requested...a popular excerpt repeated before the "2010 Fall Session" begins! The OBBHA Phantom Visits the French Palace (Silently on Multiple Nights): As one enters the French Palace a feeling of belonging sets in. At first it might be mistaken for high school nostalgia as the lockers fill your sight in long rows down each side of the long hallway, but that notion quickly subsides as the smiles on the faces of the ball hockey players coming and going greet you. Stopping outside the two main change-rooms, loud banter is heard emanating from the sweaty, leather smelling sanctuaries. Good natured teasing, game recaps and some pre-game strategy are the themes. Even some off topic political discussions take place along with the odd family update. The A-division gym is as busy as a bee-hive. Players coming and going, warm-ups are underway and the Game Manager is prepping for the game. A glance at the OBBHA signature orange sheets posted on the wall reveals the night’s anticipated action and standings among other interesting information. A stroll down the hall turns into a horse-shoe route to the B-division gym. Through some doors at the bottom of a couple of steps one sets eyes on a team with scattered ball hockey equipment all around them preparing for a game. The talk this time is about surviving the non-stop play the OBBHA is known for, who ate what and who is sore where from the week before. A closer look at the orange OBBHA sheets is attempted, but the sounds of the current game distract the reader. A line-change is underway and as fresh bodies flow out from the playing area, the spent players rush into the hallway gasping for air. A quick peak into the gym is at one’s peril. The ball deflects just past the Phantom’s ear and then a quick pass and shoot play results in a goalpost followed by an incredible glove save. The last player change and quick recovery takes place and one it ousted from his viewing perch. These are fine tuned athletes! You could spend an entertaining evening at the French Palace. Whether it is watching the women’s league and the fun entourage that follows them, the Youth and their ever happy clapping parents, or the men of all ages…all shapes and sizes, unique personalities and stories will line your memory banks from your visit to the French Palace! Orange gave Das Blau a scare as they came back from an 11-4 deficit to start the third period to make a game of it at 11-10, before losing 14-10. Orange has some scoring power too. This should be a high scoring affair Seed 11 vs Seed 10...SNC vs Grizzlies. SNC is full of confidence these day s they are starting score. Last night they won 13-9 over the Baby Blues. Baby Blues 9-7 over Grizzlies. Chris Sampson played his inaugural OBBHA game in the nets for the Grizzlies and almost pulled it off. Orange 10 Indies 8. Indies were in their closest game ever. The Burn playing before their smallest crowd to date....the fans missed a whale of game! 5-4 win for The Burn over the OBBHA Youth call-up team the Hitmen. This game was played at a high intensity with a ton of skill. The Hitmen have a top ball hockey goalie from the 1990's playing for them. Now in his 40's Gerald Charlebois is playing on his son's team and stealing the show. He was nothing short of sensational. Check him out for the upcoming Hitmen games. Baby Blues 19-9 over the Indies. This one was close for half the game until the Baby Blues scored in bunches to salt it away. Orange 8-7 over SNC. Davey Slimmons scores more goals on his back-hand for the Orange than any other OBBHA player. Blue Gym Game was played 3 on 3 between Is it in Yet? and the new youth team (Hitmen) that was called up to replace that trouble-team that lost the privilege to play in the OBBHA. The game was played high speed and was close until the 3rd period. Orange had a 3-2 lead over Belisle after one period as Davey Slimmons winked a goal in but then that was it for his eyelids. The Belise Auto goalie then would not even let an orange ball into his parking spot the rest of the way. 8-3 and the goalie was the story. A little too much bravado from the Belisle side...everyone is looking for a little more of the OBBHA 4-F motto. Fun, Fitness, Frienship and Fair-play. Belisle outlasts SNC 8-5....SNC held a 5-4 lead in the second period until mid-way through the third. Then the lack of bench strength hurt SNC once again as they ran out of gas. Belisle keeps on running and have adapted well to the OBBHA game. Sunday, May 2nd A most interesting night at the French Palace! The Burn 'burned' SNC 11-1. SNC had a short bench and OBBHA style ball hockey, with its non-stop action for the full hour, is not kind to squads that run out gas. The Burn threw the ball around nicely. Over in the 'Blues Gym" where the quick pass and shoot game is important....was no more evident in the game which saw 'Is It in Yet?' show-case the game that has been played in the B-Division for the past two fall and winter sessions. Formerly known as the 'Chiefs', Is It In Yet? schooled the Indies on the art of playing in this gym to the tune of 14-4. It was 10-3 early in the third period before Orange began an almost heroic comeback. Is It in Yet? 4 Das Blau 3. Great goaltending kep this one as the lowest scoring contest of the evening. Both teams have some veteran OBBHA players and they showcased the game at its best. THC 12 Baby Blues 5. THC started slowly and then flexed some offensive prowess. The Baby Blues seemed out of sync on this night....maybe they should wear the new T-shirts! Grizzlies 8 SNC 6. A short bench for SNC was almost bailed out by great saves from their goaltender. The Grizzlies scored 2 late goals for the win. A very tight game. Sunday, April 11 Finals Raiders 10 GOBHA-Yellow Knights 4 in B-Division Final. A very tight game was broken open early in the third period by the Raiders offence. They used the long shot rebound to their advantage as they converted early and often in the last period. The Yellow Knights, strong all season, tried their hearts out but came up short. They had their chances but ran into a solid netminder on this night. For 2 periods, some thought a shoot-out might be needed. A great battle even though the score might indicate otherwise. Congratulations to the Raiders! GOBHA-Green Slime 8-3 winners over the favoured Coconuts in A-Division Final. Everyone was talking about the Coconuts speed before the game. In an earlier play-off round-robin game they schooled the Green Slime on how speed c2222an win. But in this game the Green Slime flashed speed and exceptional positional play from the slower veterans to slowly take over this championship game. Jordan Pynn was a huge factor in the net for the Green Slime. The Coconuts had some decent chances, but Jordan made the stops while the D swept away the rebounds. A very fast paced and skilled game. The fans loved it and commented on how the Green Slime used strategy and experience to thwart the talented and fast Coconuts. Another great game was the 5-4 Sacred Blue win over the Barrhaven Source for Sports. It went down the final 5-seconds as the Sacred Blue weathered a furious storm from Barrhaven with the extra attacker on. GOBHA Yellow Knights keep on winning the close games...this one an 8-6 victory over the always game Orange. Some great end to end action in this one. TheYellow Knight are in the B-Championship match against a very strong Raiders club. Not much to choose from in this one. Goaltending will be the difference in this one. GOBHA Green Slime are in the A-division final against the speedy and skilled Coconuts. This should be interesting match of contrasting styles. Speedy lane runners vs positional creative play-makers. Should be great ball hockey. All the other matches should be closely played encounters as the similarly skilled teams match up. Check out the website for your favourite teams game time. Happy Easter and see everyone in 2 weeks! Sunday, March 14 Play-off Highlights: Reminder: No Games March 21....Play resumes March 28th. Sacred Blue come up with second impressive game in a row. This time a 5-5 tie with the fast running Wolves. Coconuts and Thunder Chiefs play exciting brand of OBBHA ball hockey. Lot's of chances and a torrid pace to the game. Thunder Chiefs hit post late as Coconuts take a thriller 6-5. How about Mich in the net with wonderful performance including a glove save that had the Coconuts applauding. GOBHA-Green Slime score most goals of the night in 16-4 romp over Sacred Green. Raiders kept the GOBHA-Yellow Knights close for two periods...but they had too many snipers out of the line-up and 3-1 deficit ballooned to an 8-2 final for the front running Knights who are through to the final and wait for the other 3 in their pool to finalize the seedings. Healthy Scratches scratched out a 12-11 wild one over Orange. Game of the night! SNC continues to improve....6-6 tie with The Hart Foundation Young Chiefs double the Old Navy crew 6-3....but the Old Navy are still double in age over the Chiefs! Red Line outscore the Gong Show 13-10 as the goals came from everywhere and everyone. Sunday, March 7 Play-off Highlights: How about Sacred Blue giving the Infamous Roaches a good run....and the wonderful display of goaltending from Frankie! He made one outstanding save that brought the French Palace faithful to their feet. A long ovation from both benches and all in attendance. A legendary glove save! Raiders and Orange play an entertaining 7-7 game. The last 2-minutes were wild. The Raiders had the game won so many times, but Orange goalie Marc Lavoie made "Frankie" like saves to preserve the tie. The iron was involved too! SNC lost 9-7 to Old Navy, but gave a superlative effort. Lot's of fun and great action in this one. GOBHA-Yellow Knights had trouble with their armour and the Healthy Scratches. Down 7-3 deep into the second period it seemed they were doomed to defeat. But they shot the lights out in the French Palace, scoring 11 straight goals to take it 14-7. Coconuts showcased their speed in a 6-3 entertaining win over GOBHA-Green Slime. Great saves and great plays. OBBHA action at its best. Sunday, February 28 Where were you when Sid the Kid scored the goal in OT for Canada, to defeat the U.S. in ice-hockey in Vancouver as 25 million Canadians celebrated, and give the Canadian Olympic team its 14th Gold Medal of the Olympics....which is now an Olympic record for most Gold Medals won by a country in a Winter Olymic competition? And then like a great Canadian should...you went out and played OBBHA ball hockey! What a great country! O'Canada! Play-offs are set.....should be great! Note the play-off schedule will feature 3 round-robin games followed by a break for Easter on April 4th .....then the final seedings games on April 11th. -Coconuts take the 4th spot over the Baby Blues on a tie-breaker (head to head was the difference). Note the tie-breaker formula is Total Wins, Head to Head, GF-GA, least # of yellow/red cards. -5th through 7th in the B-div needed the GF-GA tie-breaker as Old Navy, Chiefs and The Hart Foundation were tied at 8 points each and beat each other during the regular season. Sunday, February 21 One more game to go until the play-offs. In the A-Division the GOBHA-Green Slime and Sacred Green have secured a spot in the final four. With the Thunder Chiefs, Coconuts and Baby Blues going down to the wire for the other 2 spots. Great chance all 3 will face the tie-breakers after games next week. If all are tied it goes to total wins, head to head, total GF-GA then least number of yellow-red cards. Looks like it could come down to the total cards where the Baby Blues have a decided advantage with a crisp total of 2. The other squads are at the 8-10 range. Some are cheering for the Baby Blues just because of this! The next 6 will be in an interesting play-off format. Seeds 5,7,9 and 6,8,10 are place in 2 pools and play 3-cross over games....followed by a re-seed and final seeding games (5vs6 and 7vs8 and 9vs10). Infamous Roaches, Body Count and Wolves are the favourites here. In the B-Division GOBHA Yellow Knights and Raiders are 8-0 and are in the top four. And they have a great match against each other this Sunday! After that 4 teams are in the hunt for the final two spots. And guess what!? They all play each other next Sunday! So great games to come! The bottom 6 is wide open in terms of predictions. Highlight of the night had to be the Sacred Blue giving the Coconut all they could handle in a 12-9 loss. Another one was the Healthy Scratches leading for most of the game until the Raiders staged the dramatic comeback to win 13-11. Sunday, February 14...Valentine's Day Massacre With so many hearts in other places, the French Palace experienced small benches and heavy breathing (no pun intended). Lopsided scores in favour of the larger benches. 20 goals for Old Navy. Likewise for GOBHA-Green Slime, 18 for the Chiefs, 17 for Orange, 15 for the Yellow Knights, 14 for Sacred Green. Only one relatively close game and it was an odd game. Raiders 8 SNC 5. How about SNC starting the game with 4 players and finishing the 3rd period wtih only 3 players. 1-1 after one period, 4-4 after 2 periods. Raider lose their captain early to a ball to the nose (thank goodness for the softer ball the OBBHA uses, but a good argument for the use of cage or visor). SNC hit two posts in the final frame and did well short-handed. Does SNC stand for 'so not complicated'??? They played one of their best games by playing man to man (until the last period when they were down a man) and kept it simple. Sunday, February 7 A few highlights: -GOBHA Green Slime continue to impress with a 6-3 win over the Baby Blues. An intense and hard run. Lot's of smiles and great plays. Green Slime just had more finish. Mike Miller vs Dave Andre was a classic battle in the nets. -Sacred Green win the hard-hat award on this night for their great team effort in a 7-6 win over the Coconuts. -Infamous Roaches goaltender made several spectacular glove saves in an 8-3 win....the game was 4-2 until late, so those saves were key! -Chiefs give GOBHA -Yellow Knights all they can handle. 8-7 Knights in a nail-biter -Indie Blues renamed the Healthy Scratches and score 22! -Gong Show 7 Orange 7.....only four runners for the Gong Show. These guys are in shape after playing the OBBHA style of non-stop play! Who is that guy scoring all the goals from the back end? And this one featured an unbelievable performance in the nets for the Gong Show....imagine if the Gong Show had a full bench on a consistent basis? ************ Final Report from Victoria, BC The CBC Hockey Night in Canada National Street Hockey Championships Your Ottawa OBBHA Blues traveled by WestJet on Thursday and received best wishes from the captain/pilot followed by applause. The boys were travel weary for their first game the next day against Edmonton and dropped a 3-2 decision. Burnaby was next and showed some skill and young legs in a hard running 9-4 win. The old Blues looked at their next opponent and saw that it was Surrey who had beaten Burnaby last summer at the Vancouver tournament in the finals. Pride and some energy mixed with a solid defensive strategy were the keys in a 4-1 victory for the Blues. Saturday featured the sudden death play-offs. The Blues met Halifax and upset them 6-3 then lost to the #1 ranked team Winnipeg 7-3. The boys played hard, enjoyed themselves and represented the OBBHA with class. Lot’s of compliments from all the teams for the second oldest team at the championships for playing the clean OBBHA style of play. The tournament experience proved to both Ottawa teams here in Victoria that the OBBHA initiative and the rules that are implemented by the Game Managers is the correct path to follow. The OBBHA executive will be consulting with the PlayOn! leaders to help them improve future tournaments…specifically the one this summer in Ottawa.. OBBHA Blues were represented by: OBBHA Executive: Luc Martin and John Struthers Game Manager: Dan Rheaume GOBHA-Green Slime goalie: Dave Andre Blue-Flames/Green Slime player: Stephane Ducharme Road Apples player: Rick Roy OBBHA friend: Kyle Platt The other Ottawa team at the tournament lost a thrilling shoot-out semi-final game to Vancouver. Ottawa tied it up with 5-seconds. Then the 3-shooter shoot-out went to 6 rounds, A number of OBBHA players were on this team: -Mike Kay, Adam Dewan, John Chu and Henter of the Godfathers -Pierre Caron and Claude Turmelle of the Blue Flames -Blues alumni goalie Pierre Laroche Sunday, January 24 -another good run for your Ottawa OBBHA Blues last Friday. Davyd Balloch provided a GOBHA All-star team for the boys to play. A good old-fashioned run. The Blues leave this Thursday for the CBC Hockey Night in Canada street hockey championship in Victoria, BC. Stay tuned to CBC on Saturday all day and night for updates and featured live coverage by Scott Russell and his CBC sports crew. -Sacred Green held a 3-0 first peroid lead only to find themselves down 6-3 after two to the GOBHA-Green Slime. A spirited third ended with a 7-5 win for the men in green....Green Slime that is. -Body Count get first win of session with 14-4 romp over Sacred Blue. Frank the goalie was entertaining as usual. -One of the games of the night. Baby Blues and Wolves went end to end in classic OBBHA fashion. 4-4 until late in the game. Baby Blues take it 6-4. -Another game of the night. Coconuts held a 5-1 lead playing an exciting running/passing game. Then they tried to be physical and they lost their game that had the short-benched Thunder Chiefs clearly rattled. The Coconuts physical play resulted in many change of possessions and the Thuner Chiefs used the quick play from that to storm back and take a thriller 10-9. -Infamous Roaches run the steam out of the older Barrhaven Source for Sports. -GOBHA-Yellow Knights squeak win out over Orange 7-6. Imagine of Orange had a full turn-out! -Chiefs score 13-5 win over SNC who are sill waiting for a sniper to emerge. -Red Line win an old-fashioned OBBHA shoot-out 13-10 -Heart from The Hart Foundation in an 11-10 barn-burner over Healthy Scratches -Raiders fun to watch as Old Navy did too much of that in 12-6 loss Sunday, January 17 -last Friday night the Ottawa OBBHA Blues played an exhibition game (3 on 3) vs. the Thundering Chiefs to get the Blues prepared for the CBC Hockey Night in Canada national street hockey championships (see OBBHA News below). The Blues leave next week for the January 29-30th tournament in Victoria, BC. The young boys from the Thundering Chiefs played hard for the hour and a half run and gave your OBBHA represenatives a great work-out. The young squad was impressed and talked about how the "old guys" made creative pass plays and used ball control to their advantage. All in attendance enjoyed the entertainment. Next up for the Ottawa OBBHA Blues is one more ex-game this Friday at 9:30pm (after the OBBHA women's league A-division league games) against an all-star team from GOBHA put together by none other than GOBHA President Davyd Balloch. -Raiders and Orange played an entertaining game last night. 9-5 Raiders in a close contest until the end. -Healthy Scratches won a wild one 16-12 over the never say quit Red Line -SNC worked hard and deserved a better fate....but chemistry is developing on the Old Navy team as they scored 11 times and relied on great goaltending, only giving up 5. -Yellow Knights fill the net on the Gong Show 13-4 -Hart Foundation donate a 9-4 loss to the Chiefs -Body Count lose another heart-breaker 6-5 to the speedy Baby Blues -Rivalry Train! Sacred Green over Sacred Blue 5-2. This one was a goaltending battle! Great saves at both ends. -Thunder Chiefs pass well in 11-4 win over the Wolves. Score was indicative of the game. -Coconuts blow open a tight game over Barrhaven 12-5 -GOBHA Green Slime school Infamous Roaches 13-5. Experience over youth in this one. Sunday, January 10 The first two games of the Winter Session are in the books. A few surprises to start the year (see below OBBHA News for one). -The Coconuts, winner of the Fall B-Division had their lunch handed to them by the Green Slime on opening night 11-2, but came back in impressive fashion to win their second game 9-6 over a talented Body Count squad. -The Green Slime are surprising everyone with their quick 2-0 start. They will be tested this Sunday as they play the equally surprisingly strong Infamous Roaches. -Baby Blues beat the Thundering Chiefs on opening night only to lose a heart-breaker to the Sacred Green the other night. -Sacred Green have won two 6-5 games in a row. They hustle and are getting great goaltending.-Yellow Knights are looking good with a quick 2-0 start, as are the Raiders and Orange. -Profac Punishers are now known as SNC....lot's of speculation on what that stands for, but its the initials of the original founders of the company. -Nepean Hitmen are now known as The Hart Foundation....recognizing the great Canadian wrestler. -Old Navy (formely of the Global Frienship in the A-div) came up with their first ever franchise win! -Healthy Scratches (Indie Blues in fall session) beat the Chiefs 9-8 in the game of the week. The "Phantom" will write periodically for us....to entertain all of us! Here is sample of past 'Phantom' writing, to give you an idea of what to expect: (enjoy the descriptions of an old arena in the West End of Ottawa) Carp Phantom -Carp, Ontario, January 9, 2007 --W. Erskine Johnston arena in Carp holds so many stories within it, that when one walks into this antiquated barn it is said that the building itself yearns to share history with you. It demands something from you as well. You will know what is expected from you prior to your departure from this old treasure. The air is clean and crisp. Yet there is a thickness to it that tells of love stories unfolding at the public skate, heated discussions over politics and hockey, and games on the ice to remember. The Orleans Blues squad and their entourage strolled into the home of the Atom B Rep West Carleton Warriors. The Blues saunter was augmented with a vocal edge. Some sniping avec accent from a few of the visitors from the East end was enough to set up this match with some good old fashioned hockey emotion. The old barn shuddered ever so slightly…enough that the Phantom noticed. Game on! The captain of the Warriors served notice that this was his teams home. Jacob Melhuish scored two early goals to send the home faithful into a frenzy. The first period was well-played and things looked good for the Warriors. However, the rest of the game, for some reason, the Warriors lost all sense of the positional play that has launched this group of players into the elite status of the league. This is not to say that they did not work hard. The Phantom rates the Warriors as the hardest working team in Canada. With hard work and positional play this team will not lose a game. One could see that the Warriors dominate games with their hitting, play-making and positional play. Once the positional play is lost, the game is played in a helter-skelter manner and the outcome of a game is a coin toss. So the Blues clawed there way back into the game as the Warriors defensive schemes deteriorated into lost assignments. Finally 2 pretty goals from the visitors due to open men in front of the net and the game was tied at 2. The Phantom had the pleasure of watching Warrior goalie Blake Devine steal a point for his team in the past with spectacular play. This time his goaltending partner Patrick Kealey was on his game. He made some impressive saves including one with his mask! The Blues were a burly bunch. #27 was their biggest player by far. The Warriors defence were aware of him! #9 Ryan Kyte took it upon himself to be the one to punish this chap with hit after hit. Kyte wore down his opponent and deserves credit for this. Late in the game the Warriors pushed to try and win the game. One of the strongest skaters in the league Stacy Galasso (#16 on the line-up card for the Warriors, but #1 in our hearts) made a beautiful pass into the slot only to have the Olreans goalie rob the Warriors captain with a glove save. Finally, with one minute and three seconds left on the clock……..#12 Jake Oakley scored the dramatic winner with an equally dramatic celebration. The old arena rocked with joy. A 3-2 win for the Warriors! With hand-shakes on the ice complete, some chit-chat near the quaint canteen, of course a hot chocolate and well, it was time to make one’s way out of this place so many call home. Although it is not the old Montreal Forum the old Carp Arena left a lasting impression. You may find the ghost of the Forum here or you may find an old friend. Or a new one. This old arena does ask you for something. To be at your best on the ice and off. To be a hockey player or a hockey fan. To enjoy your time within the confines of the inviting walls of this old standby. To embrace hockey and life. The Carp Phantom was happy to catch a win on this night, but was touched by something even more meaningful. |
