Another great season is  underway for the Winter of 2018

This season we have a couple of new initiatives to stimulate some positive vibes with the OBBHA.

A. Stats

Team captains or designated statistician will have the option to keep track of team stats. HOW? see below.

After each game:

1-On the home page under  STATISTICS / WINTER 2018 on the bottom left click on your respective league/division statistic link

2-Input team Roster in your respective "Team Sheet/Label"  You only need to enter the player once. Keep adding the players as they show up (max 20 per team)

3-Input number of goals and assists by each player on a game per game basis

B. OBBHA Weekly Hockey Pool

Hockey experts, we got something for you!

In attempt to create a buzz and raise funds to enable underprivileged kids to play ball hockey, we came up with the following idea.

Why not create a weekly hockey pool, using the same concept as Pro Picks (Proline) where you have a chance to win every week!!

-Every week, you have the chance to win a 50$ giftcard from Canadian Tire

-20$ to join for the entire season/ pay John directly or send money transfer to "This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

-Submit your weekly picks before the deadline (5 minutes before first scheduled game on Saturday)

-Pick the winner / 1 point per game

-Tie breaker is "TOTAL GOALS of CBC Featured game of the week (Saturday 7pm)

-1 winner / per week (Most points)

-Join anytime

C. Live Streams and game archives

All your games are available on the following link

Bigger, Better and Stronger in 2018, thanks to you guys and your efforts!

New Stick policy for OBBHA and other news for Fall 2017

The white tape was a failure with the new floor.

-it has marked the new floor badly

-we will have to fix it....but before fixing it we had to come with a solution which we have and it appears it will save our product and help keep ball hockey being played on gym floors across the city for others as well.

Our new solution is to stop further markings to the floor prior to fixing it and then keeping it in good condition and make it easy or the membership to comply with this in a convenient and cost efficient manner

-for every game we will provide every player with a strip of adhesive velcro to put on the bottom of all the sticks (33cm in length)

-very easy process....less than 10 seconds to put on the stick

-no negative feedback from 24 teams on Tuesday, Wed and Thurs nights that have used so far (save for one player lol!)

-its actually nicer to stick-handle etc. due to less friction

-note that goaltenders need it too and we will have that ready for you too (43cm cut of velcro)

The cost per player for the Fall Session will be $10 per player (or $110 per team with team captains)

In the Winter and future sessions we will be incorporating that into the cost per individual and team fees from the outset and we are on the look-out for an even better deal for bulk purchasing which could in fact reduce the predicted increase)

-However for immediate use this was the best pricing we could reach for the Fall Session

The White Velcro will have to be put on new for each game (no reusing it for two weeks in a row)...as per previous mention, we all have to monitor that everyone follows this protocol.

-in the end this will actually be close to the same cost per individual vs buying white tape for every game for a fully wrapped stick each week that was previously required (and the floor gets protected so a win win situation all around).

-the OBBHA will simply have the White Velcro strip cut and ready for you to easily place on your stick prior to every game.

The additional cost per player will be $10 so please add to your league fee of $130 if you have not paid that already (so $140)

-for those who have paid the $130 please bring the additional $10 to your next game for John (or your team captain) who will be on site and managing the White Velcro hand-outs prior to warm-ups every game.

We are thankful that this solution works, is acceptable to the school board and that we don't have to use plastic sticks (which would be the next step if we continued to mark the floor).

We hope you appreciate our efforts to make the transition from white tape to the White Velcro by making it available at all your games and already cut for easy application to your stick...as well as removing your travel time to search for it and giving you it at cost price.

Although you have to buy your own helmet, stick, running shoes and other optional equipment.....white tape was another required purchase you would have had to make and now we are simply getting the replacement for you and adding it to the league cost to simplify the step.

See everyone soon and thanks for keeping the new French Palace in great shape!

-change rooms and hydraulic bleachers are next

-then we can install the live streaming!

(which we have ready to go once all renovations are complete!)

Cheers!

John and Jason

OBBHA

Two very important rule changes we implemented in the Spring Session:
(in anticipation of protecting the renovations and curbing injuries)

First is the full wrap of white tape of the stick from heel to toe
(this is all of our responsibility....we must be constantly looking at the sticks and not allow a player on the floor in warm-ups/games without a full wrap of white tape completely covering the under belly of the stick. With the game live-streaming the school board can see if we are not doing our job on this. No more strip only and again the inspections from us must be strictly enforced. We must be on this!!!
So make sure your team is fully supplied with white tape each week!

Second is the waist high shot. This will reduce injuries from wild shots and follow through that cut or impact defending players. We are looking for snaps shot, wrist shots and more passing to improve the product. Every other league has the waist rule...ours is only a possession change (other leagues call penalties), but on a 3rd infraction for the same player, it will be a penalty shot. A warning after the 2nd infraction will be given.

We also have changed the ball to a softer one. A mid-range between the hard one we used and the ultra soft one other leagues use. It still moves nicely and is easy to stick-handle with. The Spring teams enjoyed the changed ball.

With the pristine renovations, live-streaming and balanced leagues there is big excitement to get started!
See you soon!
